Fair use rationale for Image:Factions.JPG
Image:Factions.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. I thought that the site Aion Source would be useful, it currently is the biggest fan site on the web and gathers info from all the news sites
- How do I second something? Like so? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.234.5.36 (talk) 07:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
I agree with this request. A representative from NCSoft even drops by Aion Source and the MMORPG.com forums to talk about their upcoming game and hear what people have to say. It's really great on their part, and a further reason why it should be added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.166.143.19 (talk) 13:08, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
How many requests do you guys need in order to add the link to AionSource.com? There are Aion hispanic and romanian fansites there but there isn't the biggest (English) fansite of them all? Please do something guys.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.79.146.9 (talk) 05:32, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
I have added the link as it contains a lot of information that is beyond the scope of this article, and that is not included in the links to official sites. If anyone has a problem with this link, I'll be happy to discuss it with them. Krychek (talk) 18:57, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
Release Date: NEVER
ROFL! Thumbs up to whoever did that. It should remain as such since it is factual information after all. 72.219.15.82 (talk) 22:58, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
--218.186.12.228 (talk) 12:37, 9 February 2009 (UTC) I think "Unknown" would be better than "NEVER". You never know, Aion may come out a few years later in some other countries. There's no way NCsoft is gonna keep a game like that under wraps for long.
Not free?
I'm guessing the game isn't only going be free once you buy it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 20:30, 28 October 2006 (talk) 74.111.179.228
- Rumours go it will be a p2p game. First you'll need the game itself and then a monthly fee of about $14,99. (Lineage 2 style) Ofcourse the payment might change overtime. Who knows. Ge4ce 17:20, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- Am I the only one whos noticed the name of 3 Guild Wars class names in thi game? (Ranger, Assassin, and Elementalist). Might have something to do with the fact that their both NCsoft game though :P 76.170.11.100 01:18, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Or perhaps because the name are "subject to change"? They may not be the names we can expect with the (future) beta's or official launch. --Ge4ce 11:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think it is supposed to be about $15USD a month. It will be Pay-to-Play though.

- Apparently when you pay the monthly fee of $14.99 it not only pays for Aion but any other NCsoft game such as City of Heroes and City of Villains. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.211.235.97 (talk) 03:57, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it is most certainly going to be p2p, and although it is no official what it will cost, or how you will buy game time, it will probably be the standard - ie $14.99 per month. To the guy mentioning about GW classes, yes ranger and assasin are the same (but honestly what else would you call them) however, there is no class called elementalist. There are sorcerers which are very similar though.--82.22.227.200 (talk) 19:25, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

No. of Classes
It says that there are 12 different classes, but I count only 8. Four basic classes that split into two different sub-classes: 4x2 = 8.VAlC (talk) 10:13, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
- I guess it depends how you look at it. The Official Aion website treats the four basic classes as their own class, even though they split into two sub-classes at level 10. I would be inclined to say that there are four basic classes and eight specialized classes in the game. Saying that there are only eight total is bound to cause some confusion. 18:03, 19 June 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.37.244.28 (talk)

External Aion Wiki
I have been putting together an external Aion Wiki (Aionopedia.com). I plan to start updating this wikipedia wiki with some of the more general knowledge I have compiled for the external wiki. Others please feel free to grab any information from there that you feel should be included here as well. Also if anyone would like to help out with the external wiki it would be greatly appreciated - goal is to have a good base of knowledge by launch time. 72.37.244.28 (talk) 18:32, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- Is it acceptable to have this wiki listed in the external links section? It keeps being deleted by 78.60.120.217 with no explanation (and this is his/her only contribution to the wiki for that matter). If no one else thinks it is of added value to include then I am fine with that, but please discuss here before deleting. There are over 400 pages of Aion content on the wiki so it is a good resource for people looking for more information. Also it is in following with trends at other MMOs such as World of Warcraft (which includes a link to WoWWiki. --Aion909 (talk) 13:47, 29 June 2009 (UTC)

Why is flight claimed as "unique"?
Perfect World has had flight and combat in flight for over 2 years. This article shouldn't be an advertisement for the game, it should just say light/flight combat is possible. There is nothing "unique" about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.207.205.204 (talk) 04:27, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

AION vs Aion
The article is inconsistent: using all caps (AION) in some sections and 'Aion' in others. I haven't seen the all caps on official webpages and, to my best knowledge, it is not an acronym. So I suggest sticking to only using 'Aion'. --130.228.251.10 (talk) 08:46, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

Character customization
It is marketed as a unique capability of the game that classes can equip armor as "appearance gear". Specifically, that players are limited to appearance gear of a type their class allows. For instance a spiritwalker cannot wear plate gear.
Be aware that EverQuest II has had a very similar appearance slots system since mid-2008. One significant difference is that Aion prevents you from wearing appearance gear of a higher mitigation than your effective armor. For instance if you are using cloth armor, you cannot have a chain or leather appearance even if your class allows it. EQ2 has no such limitation. 71.75.243.54 (talk) 12:31, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- You seem to be confused about how the system works. Aion allows you to change the graphics of most weapons and armors to that of another weapon or armor of the same type that's currently in your inventory. There aren't any "appearance slots". Ziiv (talk) 13:27, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
- While it may be a different implemtation, if the end results are similar (if not the same) then the game aspect cannot be considered unique. Frohike14 (talk) 13:00, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

Sources
Just a reminder, blogs, open wikis, fan sites, etc are all self-published sources which fail WP:V and WP:RS unless owned, operated and controlled by the subject of the article. E.g. An official NCSoft staff member posting on the official forums is a self-published source, but since its a primary source it is reliable. Random users posting on those forums are not. Anyone posting on third party sites is never a reliable source.--Crossmr (talk) 01:52, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
Gameguard
Why doesn't this article have anything about the Gamegaurd program in Aion, which basically acts as a rootkit? 72.81.139.206 (talk) 02:13, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
I did a read over other articles of games that include GameGuard, and none of them mention the in-depth GameGuard criticisms this one does. The criticisms should probably be moved to the GameGuard article and the section removed from this article with a simple sentence in description saying "Aion uses GameGuard as an anti-hack software." ferret (talk) 15:35, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
The article cites North American / European versions will not use GameGuard. These versions have sinced been released, can anyone clarify this? --38.97.88.20 (talk) 14:11, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
What exactly is non-NPOV about the GameGuard criticisms? While GameGuard criticisms should be in the GameGuard article, I don't think what is written here under 'Criticism' is non-NPOV, so long as the information is factual and supported by the sources cited --38.97.88.20 (talk) 14:11, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- gameguard is a small part of Aion, giving it too much attention violates NPOV under the "undue weight" section.--Crossmr (talk) 14:29, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- When I originally posted my comment above, GameGuard was still a part of Aion and the latency issues were not mentioned, only the security holes of GameGuard. My thought was that the lengthy description of GameGuard being exploitable and having security risks are not Aion-specific, so shouldn't be in this article. Now, if GameGuard seems to be adversely affecting players of Aion more than it does in another game, that's different, and a note about how GameGuard was removed as a result of player lag and disconnections is probably appropriate. But talking about unpatched security issues that affect every game using GameGuard should be moved to the other article. ferret (talk) 14:35, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- I'll add this: None of the references for the GameGuard criticism contain references about Aion, until the final addition that mentioned its removal from the game due to latency/lag issues for some players (Not security concerns). There's no links to any reviews or previews of the game from any source that mentions as a criticism of Aion that GameGuard is being used. ferret (talk) 14:50, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
This article states that gameguard did not ship with Aion versions. [1] I think we can safely remove GG criticisms to the GG article and include here that Aion used to use GameGuard, has since been removed, but may be re-implemented in the future. --38.97.88.20 (talk) 19:31, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- A lot of things "may" happen in the future. Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, see WP:NOT.--Crossmr (talk) 23:56, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
Removing Irrelevant Data
I personally feel the following sections do not, or no longer belong in this article.
- Releases in non-English communities. This is the English Wikipedia, the English release date, and perhaps the original Koran date which can be placed under 'Development' - they are all that are necessary.
- Music (needs to be extended, or placed elsewhere.)
- Armory
- Game previews
The article is also very messy and could do with a restructuring, and the discussion needs to be pruned. Discuss.
Perhaps the classed can use the definitions from the official page? Phenie (talk) 14:34, 1 September 2009 (UTC)
- I disagree with your first point. This is the english-language article. Which means that the language used should be english, but the content should contain what is relevant for the topic itself. What you're saying is basically something similar to asking science related articles to remove references to non-english speaking scientists that may have contributed to the field/discovery. I believe articles that exists in multiple languages should have identical information, but simply written in a different language. 202.53.199.23 (talk) 03:52, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Game Play
This is a place for accurate and complete information of a professional nature. Fans or detractors of the game should find a different venue to air their grievances or admiration. Simply deleting pertinent information of a valid and true aspect of the game because it is "unsourced" is unreasonable and inaccurate. You have several sections to delete due to lack of sources being included if this is legitimate rationale.
Grinding is a legitimate term and a definite aspect of this game that should be included and explained in the same manner that fans have described other elements and aspects of gameplay. This isn't a fanpage and it's not a place to sell your product. You're abusing wikipedia and hampering its mission by editing pertinent and real information out of an article to suit your perception of what is good/bad publicity. If you can level to 50 in this game by simply questing or moving through unique content then it would not be applicable or acceptable - this is not the case and as such it is an element of the game, one that many enjoy, and it needs to be included in an encyclopedic entry here. If someone would like to write this in a way that they feel shines brightly on their little gem, go ahead, but it needs to be noted. 75.70.87.221 (talk) 00:51, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
- The reception section already mentions the grinding issues multiple times. If you feel it needs expansion, find some more reviewer sources and stick them in. ferret (talk) 13:04, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Elyos = LOWER, Asmodians = UPPER
Please stop changing this fact to the opposite. Even though it is counterintuitive to the Judeo-Christian mythos, the Elyos inhabit the LOWER half of Atreia, while the more bestial Asmodians inhabit the UPPER half. This is not a game about angels and demons. This is not a game about heaven and hell. This is not a game about any Earthly mythology. It's fine if you want to play it that way for your own amusement, but please check your religion and your preconceptions at the door when editing the Wikipedia article. What interests me is, what makes the upper upper and the lower lower? --Bradleyrieth (talk) 23:02, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- The same thing that makes the North Pole the 'top' of our planet. --142.162.170.7 (talk) 13:36, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- I never saw it as a Heaven/Hell analogy, the analogy I saw was to Korea itself.
- "Many centuries ago, the Asmodians of upper Atreia and the Elyos of lower Atreia were one people. There was neither divide nor difference between them; indeed they embraced each other as brothers. Now they are each burdened with an unrelenting and deep-rooted hatred of the other, and meet with drawn swords instead of open arms."
Those in the "south" split and became beautiful, whilst those in the "north" became twisted and red. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.170.105.81 (talk) 21:04, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- So basically, it's modeled after the Korean peninsula, with the South as the bottom "hemi-shell" and a North as the top. —017Bluefield (talk) 03:06, 16 October 2013 (UTC)
Aion: Steel Cavalry
Why is the game being named "Aion: Steel Cavalry" on the Wikipedia page when the official name of the game, in the West, is simply Aion?
Steel Cavalry is only an expansion of the game. It is analogous to naming the World of Warcraft page after the latest expansion - something that doesn't make any sense as the game's name is not defined by its version. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.15.248.175 (talk) 05:38, 23 June 2015 (UTC)
