Impact, praise and crticism section
[edit]The above mntioned section is written in glorifying manner, ignoring real crtisim on Barak as was invariably heard in Israel and outside. Most of this section is devoted to unproportional praising while the crticisem-which at least goes to the same extent is not there. What more that the section include decisive statments and assertions on controversial issues without no sources provided to support them.--Gilisa (talk) 08:51, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
- You'll need to point to specific instances. I don't think the article is biased -- personally I am strongly opposed to Barak's judicial activism and think Israel's Supreme Court has completely overstepped its proper boundaries. But Barak has been a major figure in the development of Israeli law and I think thought that reality needed to be reflected in the article, which is why I expanded it. When I wrote that section I made note of both praise and criticism. If I have failed to mention some specific criticisms which you think are notable and important then you should add them to the article. But I do not think this section can be called biased, let alone "glorifying." The fact of the matter is that he is the single most important figure in the development of Israel's law and judicial system to this day. Sstr (talk) 07:17, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
- I can point out on many issues here, but it will turn the discussion to endless soap boxing. The fact is that there are no similar sections in other biographical articles. Hence, I removed this section.--Gilisa (talk) 15:57, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- If you can point out issues, please do so and I will gladly work through them with you. Deleting the entire section is completely inappropriate. Certainly other biographies contain similar sections, see e.g. Steven Spielberg, William Randolph Hearst, Martin Gilbert, John Pilger, etc. I will revert the edit. Any specific issues you have with claims made in the section should be made here.Sstr (talk) 09:19, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
- Take in mind that there are no similar sections in any of the living judges biographies.--Gilisa (talk) 15:11, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps the article needs to be restructured then. For example we could have a section titled "Impact on Israeli Law" (or find some other way to integrate the changes he led into the article), and seperately deal with praise and criticism regarding specific issues e.g. state-religion relations, the West Bank barrier rulings, etc. Sstr (talk) 00:21, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
Mentioned in Kagan U.S. Senate Hearings
[edit]Something should be mentioned about this in the article. Here's some WP:Reliable sources. Jerusalem Post, Israel Natl News, National Public Radio (USA), Joshua Keating in Foreign Policy Blog, Washington Post/Davied Weigel. Just for starters. CarolMooreDC (talk) 15:25, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
