Inviting editors to continue to improve this article

[edit]

Hello! I'm letting you all know that I suggested the Black women in American politics article for a Good Article Nomination.

It was removed with the following comment: "Nominations need someone familiar with the sourcing and content of an article so they can respond to reviewer concerns, so it's usually expected that the nominator is one of the main contributors to the article. Also, it still needs a lot of work before it can be a good article, as it suffers greatly from scope issues and needs more citations."

I don't know if the creator of the article is still active, but I want to encourage all interested editors to see what they can do to improve the article.ProfessorKaiFlai (talk) 21:30, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some suggestions:
  1. The overall length of the article is good, but some sections are way too detailed for this broad overview article. Trimming or cutting some detail would free up room for expansion. History before 1940 or so is looking particularly underdeveloped.
  2. The article needs to lean more on high-quality books and journal articles that are themselves broad overviews of this subject. Too many parts are sourced to low quality news and opinion articles.
  3. There are some tags that need to be resolved. The unsourced list of activists could probably be cut or split off into its own article.
  4. The article should consistently use the capitalized "Black" or the lowercase "black. Current usage is mixed. I'd advocate for capital, which is what the best recent sources use.
I do hope this article gets some attention. Broader articles like Black women also need work. Narrower articles, like Mary McLeod Bethune (which recently and tragically lost its GA status) do as well. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 15:15, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
