Merger proposal

[edit]

I propose that Vehicle safety technology be merged into Advanced driver-assistance systems. VTS article covers the same topic and scope as ADAS, but goes into more specifics about each technology. Both articles are fairly short, and should be able to be merged without too much issue. GamerMan7799 (talk) 15:18, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Vehicle safety technology and advanced driver-assistance systems are different concepts, and each of them is long enough to be an independent article.--Neo-Jay (talk) 04:34, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Second opposition. On merging Vehicle safety technology into Advanced driver-assistance systems. First, I note that the definitions and terminologies are still evolving. I do not know if "Vehicle safety technology" is truly an industry term with a generally accepted definition. Over time as ADAS technology evolves, driver-assistance will evolve into driver replacement, of which safety is a technology subcategory and leaning more towards (driver) support systems to practice "Safe" driving. I suggest ADAS technology is a different discussion than safety measures like vehicle stability control, head impact, airbags, crash testing etc. that are designed to create a "Safe" vehicle independent of the ADAS level. I do think the Vehicle safety technology article has concepts that would be better in the ADAS article. Perhaps the definitions of ADAS and vehicle safety should be narrowed to prevent the current overlap of topics. A safety system that specifically exists to ensure "safe" driving would be part of the ADAS article. - Pallaverm (talk) 01:12, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Toyota

[edit]

Look at what Toyota and other competing automakers are actually doing in this arena.[1][2][3]

Possible Added Sources

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I am looking to possibly incorporate the following sources into this Wikipedia article: - Survey of Pedestrian Detection for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems - https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/5010438/ - Advanced Driver Assistance Systems from Autonomous to Cooperative Approach - https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01441640801987825 - Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Past, present, and future - https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/6153935

Thanks!

Proposed article changes

[edit]

We are looking to add more details on the feature examples. We are also thinking of added a history section along with the developments section. We also want to add sections on insurance, economic impact, and the ethics. We are looking to edit sentences for concision and also possibly make small additions. --Abotansky (talk) 20:46, 30 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Which details?
  • History section is always a good choice
  • insurance, economic impact, and the ethics: any source?
That was done yet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.136.214.13 (talk) 22:10, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Near 40 unordered possible example features

[edit]

Those near 40 features are not well ordered: alphabetical order is meaningless for feature which does not have a standard name.

Instead, those features could be in a table, with columns which provide information:

  • regulated? is the ADAS regulated by some standard (US, UNECE regulations, global regulations, Chinese regulation, etc)
  • mandatory? is that ADAS mandatory is some major market (US, China, EU, Japan, UK)
  • mainstream? is that ADAS available in many cars?
  • feature category? is this ADAS related to parking? driving? communication/information? monitoring? safety? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.136.214.13 (talk) 22:07, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ethical Issues and Current Solutions

Ethical Issues and Current Solutions

Is this related to Advanced driver-assistance systems (level 1-2) or autonomous vehicle (level 3-5) ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.136.214.13 (talk) 22:20, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pluralizing "Advanced driver-assistance system" to be "systems"

[edit]

I recommend we pluralize "Advanced driver-assistance system" to use "systems", thereby making it "Advanced driver-assistance systems".

My reasoning:

- It seems like all the standard definitions on the web have "systems", not "system". Googling "ADAS definition" comes up with the following as the top results:

https://www.synopsys.com/automotive/what-is-adas.html, which is plural

https://www.gartner.com/en/information-technology/glossary/advanced-driver-assistance-systems-adass, which is plural

https://www.spiceworks.com/tech/iot/articles/what-is-adas/, which is plural

https://www.aptiv.com/en/insights/article/what-is-adas, which is plural.

- The entire article struggles with whether ADAS is a singular noun or plural noun. Changing it to refer to "systems" would allow a consistent subject-verb agreement. For example, the initial uses of ADAS all have implied plural subjects: "ADAS are developed", "ADAS are proven", "ADAS were".

To make this change, I would "move" the article to "Advanced driver-assistance systems", which would move the talk pages as well, and leave a redirect behind.
