Framework

[edit]

This article seems a little off balanced, with only information on same sex adoptions. Take a look at some other pages such as Adoption in California for examples. It should discuss federal rules, state variations, rights of the child, privacy of the birth parents, foster care, step parent adoption, international adoptions, statistics (how many children have been adopted over the years), waiting lists, aboriginal history (stolen generations), etc. Ikzing (talk) 12:38, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Single women stolen children?

Misguided / biased?

[edit]

"There has been a substantial decline in the number of adoptions in Australia since the early 1970s. In 1971–72 there were 9,798 adoptions, which declined to 1,052 in 1991–92, and 576 in 2005–06.[1][2] A report by the Australian Bureau of Statistics attributes this decline to the introduction of welfare for single mothers, increased legal access to termination of pregnancy, family planning services, access to child care and improved participation of women in the workforce."

This sounds like it might be incredibly biased / a nasty piece of cover up. The particular sticking point is 1971-72 since this was just before the policy of forced adoptions from single women and aboriginals ended. According to the Australian parliament there was tens of thousands of these.--Senor Freebie (talk) 09:24, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
