Conflicting Initial Identity Claims of CSS Alabama
[edit]In the article, it currently claims, as it is indeed written in the DANFS entry for USS Hatteras, that the Alabama initially identified herself as HBMS Spitfire when challenged. However, in the book The Civil War at Sea by Craig L. Symonds, which I currently have next to me, it is written on page 95 that she identified herself as "'Her Britannic Majesty's Ship Vixen'". Furthermore, in the article for USS Hatteras it is written (without attribution) that she identified herself as "'Her Britannic Majaesty's [sic] Ship Petrel'". Which one of these three is correct? I am inclined to believe it is the identification as the Vixen seeing as DANFS is sometimes out of date and there is no citation for the Petrel claim. However, this is just a guess. -Noha307 (talk) 01:09, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
