Unique root system
[edit]This strain is a bit unusual with regard to it's root system. I have grown this strain and it is incredibly drought resistant. This strain is best grown in actual soil and not coir or other hydroponic mediums as the the incredible flavor is lacking if not grown in actual soil. The first run of these plants I grew out and flowered several years ago were not true to form because I cropped them the same way I do other indica hybrids, and cut them green when the leaf glands started to turn milky. After de-potting the plants from the first run I noticed something very odd in that the plants create skinny sweet potato-like underground storage roots for water retention (I have never seen this with any other strain). This apparently is an adaptation of this strain to drought conditions in its native Mexico and explains why the plants grown outside this range lack the amazing aroma and flavor. I have done a lot of experimentation and I discovered to secret to recreating the original strain characteristics, color, and flavor with commercial cultivation. It's fairly simple, when the buds are close to 50% of the way through development, cut back on watering the plants and keep them just barely moist and allow the medium to dry completely between watering. The plants respond by using it's underground water storage in it's very odd root system, and this triggers the plants to develop gold and red tones. I let the plants go days sitting dry as the flowering completes, and the plants respond by putting on autumn colors and develop that amazing peppery aroma and taste. When harvested green like other indica hybrids, the buds are lacking in the flavor. The solution is to treat the plants like you would a cactus plant -- allow to dry almost completely between watering, and when you do water in the final stages of flowering, just give the plants barely enough to moisten the soil, and gradually taper off watering and let them sit completely dry for days on end, then they develop that incredible potency and taste. I realize all of this is WP:OR but it's incredibly useful information for anyone attempting to grow this strain true to form, so I include it here in the hopes that someone somewhere will create or locate some good WP:RS so it can be included in the article. I am running down some sources for this, but so far haven't seen any but I will keep searching. KindHorta (talk) 00:32, 19 December 2024 (UTC)
