Old talk
[edit]It would be nice if this article (or the one on Yamoussoukro) mentioned why the capital was moved.
Cleanup tag
[edit]It was added because the lead sounds a little too much like a travel guide, e.g. "city of contrasts", "upscale residential area", etc. Hopefully someone will be able to fix this. Brisvegas 00:13, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
A poor article all around
[edit]It's not just the lead. The entire article suffers from two problems: reading like a travel guide for Western tourists, and containing a huge number of totally unsubstaniated generalizations... I'm sure the city is dangerous, but that should be sourced by pointing to actual quotes on criminal acts and their frequency, not vague claims about what is and isn't "dangerous" to do there.
To test it, try imagining any of the sentences in the wikipedia article on Detroit. It's probably not a great idea for tourists to take bus routes through parts of Detroit at night, but an encyclopedia article would never recommend against it. Passdoubt | Talk 22:53, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree, many strange and clearly untrue assertions are made here e.g. the "US Embassy for West Africa" is located in Abijan. The article also sounds like it was translated from French or (as is more likely) was written by a native french speaker, who speaks English as a second language. Definately needs to be cleaned up and better presented. Ajisekanla (talk) 16:34, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
This article is in dire need; it has hardly been edited at all since 2005. I suggest adding an infobox and some sources. Someone the Person (talk) 22:09, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
What happened??
[edit]Why have we lost four years of edits??? Dr. Blofeld White cat 19:06, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
- Were they there to begin with? If so, use this to restore them. Someone the Person (talk) 00:44, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- Maybe the edits should be restored. The article lacks information, is more like a brochure now. --Mr Accountable (talk) 00:48, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Adjective form
[edit]What do you call a person or thing from Abidjan? Is he or it "abidjanaise" with lower case, or "Abidjanaise" (like Parisian)?
Also, why does the article introduce the alternative spelling of the city (sans explanation) in the fourth paragraph of the History section?
The History section needs a grammar cleanup. I'll try to start it, but I'm not perfect at this kind of thing... Marcipangris (talk) 17:21, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
More questions:
1. In the first paragraph of the History section, this sentence is unclear:
"Abidjan was the third city to be the capital of Côte d'Ivoire, after Grand-Bassam and Bingerville, which is now considered to form a suburb of the current capital."
What is now considered to form a suburb of the current capital: Grand-Bassam? Bingerville?
2. History section, second paragraph: Who is Houidaille?
3. History section, second paragraph: Colonial: capitalized or not? I would think lower case, unless it refers to a specific era in French history.
4. History section, second paragraph: who blackmailed the Tchaman?
5. History section, sixth paragraph: is "The Plateau" a formal name? Or is it "the Plateau," or just "the plateau"?
6. History section, seventh paragraph: Did the street addresses remain in place at the whim of mayor Conan Kanga? Or were they were (badly) supplemented with the American system at the whim of mayor Conan Kanga? Vague phrasing. In addition, there seems to be no citation available for this claim (I have searched). The word "badly" is questionable as well.
7. In paragraph three of History, it mentions Lagune n'doupé, but in paragraph nine, it says Lagoon n'doucé. Which is correct?
8. History section, eleventh paragraph: What is meant by "smart?"
9. History section, thirteenth paragraph: Are the large working class zones of migrants feeding off the misery? If not, who is feeding off the misery? Confusing…Marcipangris (talk) 18:08, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Translated|fr|Abidjan Complete
[edit]I have finished adding my translation class's translation of the page from French. I have reorganized the page so that it corresponds better to the information presented there. I have also combined some of the former sections together. Weristich (talk) 09:33, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sadly it must be said that your translation class are not very competent in their command of English. I have cleaned up some of the spelling and grammatical errors and mistranslations, but much remains too unclear for me to tackle. There remain some hilarious mistakes, such as (under 'Colonial Epoch') "the leadership of Mayor Konan Kanga, completed by the Americans in 1993", whose meaning is too obscure for me to correct. Kindly note that all the references to Le Plateau link to an article on a location in Montreal, Canada, and not to the commune of Plateau in Coté d'Ivoire; an article on Plateau, Abidjan is urgently required, and linkages consequently amended. The article needs a better translation. I mean professional translation. Bonne Aventure Aka (talk) 21:35, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Population
[edit]Population numbers are different in different sections of the article and different again from the source given. It seems suspicious that they would have the exact number of inhabitants based upon an estimate... Based on the source: the estimate for the Urban Agglomeration 2007 is 3.802 million or for 2010 is 4.175 million. But even these numbers are highly suspect. Mattximus (talk) 18:37, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Record temperatures
[edit]It looks like voodooskies.com is not reliable. 32°F on Sep 11 2000? I doesn't make any sense at all, not even slightly remotely, and contradicts some other sources like this. It looks more like a bug (missing data converted to 0) than encyclopaedic information. I propose to remove this data until a better source is found. Calimo (talk) 22:08, 8 March 2014 (UTC)
What is missing from the recently created city timeline article? Please add relevant content. Contributions welcome. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 16:10, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Treichville and other things I wonder
[edit]hope I spelled the neighborhood right. In its section in Southern Abidjan it mentions "street 12" -- please explain what this is. There is enough rough translation here to make me wonder whether that should just be 12th Street. I many have other comments later. I am making a first-pass attempt at getting this off the translation cleanup list. Elinruby (talk) 04:07, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Re "the metropolitan area, which is the third-largest French speaking metropolitan area in the world after Paris, Montreal and Kinshasa.[citation needed]" -- if it's after Paris, Montreal and Kishasa, doesn't that make it 4th largest? Removing pending clarification Elinruby (talk) 18:04, 2 October 2016 (UTC)

Should we move the part about it being an autonomous district?
[edit]To my knowledge, Abidjan Autonomous District is the same as Abidjan Department, while the actual city of Abidjan is different. I suggest that we move the information about the autonomous district to the page about the department and have this page be about the city within it.
