[edit]Holocaust? That wasn't for more than 15 years after this guy moved to the States. Jackjackjackjackjack 21:49, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed that too. I assume his family was escaping anti-semitic persecution of the type that was common in Europe before the actual Holocaust.Geoffg 01:32, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
- in 1923 there were no "preludes" to the Holocaust, no hint of the atrocities to come just yet. His family most likely emmigrated to the US for the opportunities "the American Dream" offered them. MPJ-DK 11:08, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Abe Coleman's family most likely would have left Poland in the early 1920s because of the frequent Jewish pogroms that were common in Europe before, during and after the war. Poland, with a high concentration of Jews in its urban centers, would have been an especially vulnerable place to live. EdinPasCA 13:00, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
But in Poland it wasn't until 1939 after the Nazi Germany invaded Poland. And in Germany it wouldn't be until 1933. I think the part about Holocaust should be removed. User:Norum 31 Mar 2007
- Does anyone know anything about how Abe Coleman chose to spell his name? While it seems that he wrestled professionally under Coleman (with an 'e'), I think he made use of Colman (without) in other aspects of his life. Rshaulcolm 01:11, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
The NY Times obituary by Douglas Martin list his real first name as Abba, not Abbe. Unfortunately, I can only link you to the summary and you need to pony up to see the article.
