Another topic

You should add more information and some should be in Urdu. You should tell more info. This is not enough. Like some research work. I have to do a research work in Urdu. But I can't. You should add more topics frequently and I can't believe you have such poor info. Shame on you. 2400:ADC5:407:D200:C0D9:3391:7DBC:7647 (talk) 08:39, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Memon

I have changed "one of the most active Memon philanthropists" to just he's "one of the most active Memon philanthropists". He's not just the most active from his own community; he's the most active of ANY. I have added a mention of which community he's from further down.iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 20:12, Feb 15, 2005 (UTC)

Although Edhi started as a charity worker for his Bantwa Memon community, he has overgrown his Bantwa background, then his Memon background, and now he has overgrown his national and religious background. In my view, his introduction should be "a Pakistan based internationally recognized charity worker" (keep in mind the international awards and recognitions). Title Maulana

Dr Abdul Sattar Edhi, or Maulana Edhi (remove word Dr.) Maulana Edhi should be change to Maulana Sattar Edhi (note: Sattar Edhi has no formal religious training in Islam but people gave him this title because of his appearance and because he used to lead funeral prayers --sidq 20:07, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

Well he is simply known as Edhi. Both Maulana and Dr are fitting titles. Maulana means "Our Leader" and he is indeed a leader in charity work. However he does not like the title as this title is reserved for religious clerics in Pakistan. He does have an honorary Ph.D degree from I.B.A. as such the title of Dr is also correct, and he likes this title. Please do not confuse Maulana with Maulvi. Maulvi is a title for a graduates of Maulvi course from a madrissa. Hassanfarooqi 17:11, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

If someone could get a picture that isn't copyright protected onto the page I would really appreciate it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by M2k41 (talkcontribs).

Official Site for Edhi Foundation:

I've been looking everywhere for the 'official' website for the Edhi Foundation but unfortunately I don't think they have one as of yet. It maybe that they would rather have this foundation stay as a grassroots foundation?

Readdition of large chunks of material

A lot of material I have written previously has been removed. I have readded some of it and have cited where I got the information from. M2k41 (talk) 12:21, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Please change the misspelt word reportededly to reportedly. It is the third word in the second sentence of the early life section. Riley260696 (talk) 11:30, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Revert as of 26 June 2006

Spasage reverted my edit as of 26 June 2006. But I see no reason for these changes being reverted. I have added a reliable source that states where and when Edhi received his doctorate, I also removed the word 'recently' from the sentence because what happens when people read this article in a couple of years? I also removed the link to the flu epidimic page because that page does not exist.M2k41 11:05, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Some words about Doctor Abdul Sattar Edhi. Doctor Abdul Sattar Edhi has done what others can never do. He has set up an example. May Allah bless him happiness in this life and in the life hereafter, aameen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.158.141.242 (talkcontribs) can vist gaza

referencing

It would be very good if some more references were added--there are probably newspaper or magazine articles or broadcasts about his work. DGG 02:20, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

I was the one who wrote the majority of this article and I will be returning to it in a few weeks to make some large scale improvements including references. M2k41 (talk) 12:00, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Is he a doctor?

Nowhere in the article is it mention what kind of a doctor he is (phd or what have you). But he is called Dr. Edhi several times.PonileExpress (talk) 02:32, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Age at death

Last line of the introduction says "Edhi passed away at the age of 92 in Karachi."

He was 88 when he died.

Grunfunke (talk) 19:26, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

There is a problem here - the cited source says he died age 92, but all references I can find for his date of birth say 1 January 1928, making him 88. Thryduulf (talk) 19:47, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
I've replaced that source with one that says he was 88 and fixed every instance of born in 1924 and aged 92 that I can find. Thryduulf (talk) 19:53, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Local sources like DAWN says he was 92. http://www.dawn.com/news/1267583/celebrated-humanitarian-abdul-sattar-edhi-passes-away-in-karachi. Mynameisparatha (talk) 20:06, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
But every source that gives a date of birth says he was born on 1 January 1928, which by simple maths makes him 88. I have no idea where age 92 comes from but it is incorrect. 88 is also reported by Pakistani sources Express Tribune for example. Thryduulf (talk) 20:34, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
Also worth noting that DAWN give a 1928 birth here Thryduulf (talk) 20:42, 8 July 2016 (UTC)
92 might be his age via the Hijri calendar since that calendar's year is shorter Erp (talk) 15:32, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

Photo?

As he is dead, now can we replace the main photo with this one http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ypgyBZCBzBs/TTEGAsw-AoI/AAAAAAAAAH4/EG6bNy2G6FE/s1600/896395462_dd22f3bb1b.jpg. 70.50.134.19 (talk) 21:51, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

No. The photo you link to is of an unclear license and so probably copyrighted, meaning we could only use it under a claim of fair use. As the current picture is freely licensed there is no possible valid fair use rationale for a non-free image. Thryduulf (talk) 10:19, 9 July 2016 (UTC)

His real birthdate

According to this article, he was born on February 28, that's why Google is honoring him today. As there is no birthdate on his page, it should be added. Why else would Google honor him today if his birthday was a different day? Also, the article says February 28. 173.68.25.111 (talk) 11:59, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
