General clean-up and adding references to article
[edit]I have made a bit of an effort to clean-up this article, although, no doubt, it still requires attention.
The article was tagged with a "COI" and I can see why. It uses over-the-top superlatives to describe the artist and his work, mostly unsourced descriptions as well. In addition, the article did little to provide factual information about the artist's early life, preferring to use every other sentence to write in glowing terms about his style. Much of this material appears to be out of context - suggesting that it is a bit of a "cut and paste" taken from undisclosed sources.
I have:
- imposed a general chronological sequence on the biographical details
- added factual content about the artist's early life, all with reliable references
- moved all glowing descriptions to the section on "work" (although much of this could be deleted in its entirety without any loss of value)
- located references for relevant passages
There can be little doubt that Abdul Qader Al Rais is a very important artist in the gulf region. However, the style and tone of the original article - lacking reliable sources, and written in over the top language, do nothing to attest to his importance. Moreover, the article downplays the artist's significance as part of the broader, hurufiyya movement, occuring across the Arab nation. It's extraordinary, really, that even with the over the top descriptions of the artist's individual style, editors have failed to locate this artist into the broader movement.
I am reluctant to delete content, instead preferrring to clean it up and/or add references to unsourced material. But, I think that a lot of the material in the work section could be reverted without diminishing the article. I will leave it to other editors to make revert decisions.
