Move from incubator
[edit]I've moved this article into mainspace from the incubator. A previous version was deleted after discussion. The project has now apparently been filmed, released and commented upon, so I find it again worthy of judgement under notability guidelines. The substantive talk page content was a commented-out Film Project assessment, since it will require re-assessment I did not restore the talk page. Franamax (talk) 22:42, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Crass Advertisement for the film maker
[edit]This entry is obviously not meant to be an encyclopedia entry. It is pulled exclusively from the boxtop and the film maker's website (either directly or indirectly). There are so many problems it is impossible to list them all, but I'll list some in the hopes that the article will be scrapped and someone besides the film maker writes a new one.
The very first sentence says the film is about the military's don't ask don't tell policy. But, it is not about the policy. It is purposely misleading to say so. It is, in fact, a fictional account of one person's experience with the DADT policy. That's a big difference.
The plot summary is not a plot summary by Wikipedia standards. It is pulled directly from the manufacturers boxtop and ads. It is a shameless copy/past of the boxtop teaser.
The Reception section has nothing to do with the reception, but rather is a listing of praise from various sources. IMDB lists it as 5.7. Metacritic pegs it at 51/100. Brian Miller of the Village Voice says of it:
"The movie becomes a lesbian amalgam of "Walking Tall" and "Billy Jack." Relentlessly clumsy and predictable, A Marine Story is set in late 2008, just as a new political breeze is blowing. But its abrupt, wishful postscript is still just a fairy tale."
Finally, there are no external links given for Metacritic, IMDB, or Rottentomatoes, all of which would give a far more encyclopedic view if this film that the current Wikipedia entry. I've read dozens/hundreds of movie review on Wikipedia, and this is by far the worst.
Really, this shameless ad should be removed.
