SAE is not Society of Automotive Engineers. There used to be several SAE's under the umbrella of Auto, but in this case, SAE stood for Society of Aerospace Engineers. Sometime ago, all SAE's became a single entity called "SAE" which is no longer an abbreviation. (Bjbuelow (talk) 03:53, 17 December 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Info box

[edit]

I created an info box to visually tie the SAE publications, following the Template:RTCA standard info box. Discussion might be found here. I am looking to highlight the connections illustrated in Figure 1 of ARP4754A. -- IveGoneAway (talk) 14:14, 16 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Future changes is past

[edit]

With the 2023 release of Rev A, the content of section Future changes is no longer accurate. I had thought that it could be safely deleted as the fastest way to at least partially update the article. OTOH, its presence might serve as an annoying reminder of the need to update the overall content.

However, even if the ARP increased from 300+ to 600+ pages, the policy is unchanged from the FAA perspective, the 4761 processes were always intended as process. In one sense, all the additional 300 pages do is make that policy more explicit.

I have started slow collection of secondary RS on the Rev A changes, and from them my understanding is that the original release was not explicit in stating that the 4761 processes were intended to be continuous though the development lifecycle, resulting in "silo thinking", which is the opposite of the intention. Also, I see this as, in part, synchronization with DO-178C's added emphasis on feedback to Systems.

Don't let my pace restrict action on your part to update this page. As you see best, go ahead and delete Future changes or change it to some sort of History section or at least tag the page for update.
