I came across Eversholt Street in my genealogical research when looking up someone on the 1881 census. When I Googled the street though to find out some history, all the hits including Wikipedia agree that Eversholt Street was Seymour Street until it got renamed in 1938, which confused me. If Eversholt Street as a name wasn't around until 1938, how was it being referred to 57 years earlier? To try and work it out, I looked at old O/S maps back to 1870 and I think I see what's happened. Eversholt Street existed at the same time as Seymour Street, it just covered a smaller area than it does now. Eversholt was the top bit of the current street, down to the crossroads with Lidlington Place and Oakley Square. The rest of it down to Euston Road was Seymour. It looks like when Seymour Street was renamed, it took on the name of its neighbour, thus extending Eversholt Street to its current length. Perhaps the street's history section here could mention this? Analog Kid (talk) 03:59, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
