[edit]I corrected the (Josh McDowell-derived) misquotation of Sherwin-White on Acts which appears here. The actual quote is somewhat less flattering, unfortunately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.234.42.114 (talk) 14:28, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for noting the error. I've removed the extended quotations while expanding Sherwin-White's biography. The reader knowing little about his work would probably have come away from the older version of the article thinking of him as some sort of Christian apologist, when the New Testament only accounted for a small portion of his scholarly output and his views on its historicity were more nuanced than the selected quotations could show. If Roman Society and Roman Law in the New Testament has been popular with conservative Christian authors, that may be worth noting; Josh McDowell seems from his article to be quite a prolific figure.
- I shall look up the JRS obituary when I can and add any material of significance. EALacey (talk) 22:01, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- I found an identical misquotation at Acts of the Apostles while adding links to this page. I fixed it, of course, but it's disturbing that people have been adding second-hand quotations of Sherwin-White while citing the original as if they'd consulted it directly. - A Sherwin-White quote is still in use at the Historical Reliability of the Acts of the Apostles entry. Is it the same one that has been removed here, and if so could someone give the corrected version?

wrong link to place of death
[edit]Hello, his place of death is noted as Fyfield, however, the link directs to the village of Fifield (with an "i" instead of a "y"). Both places exist and both are in Oxfordshire, so I can't tell if the spelling or the link is incorrect. Cheers! 190.104.112.99 (talk) 20:06, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
