Stade municipal d'Oujda vs. Honor Stadium

[edit]

@Jkudlick and @AMBlanco25: I think FIFA and CAF are using an uncommon or possibly incorrect name for the stadium, and Honor Stadium is actually the correct venue/common name. It's confusing because there is a different stadium in the city actually named Stade municipal d'Oujda, but if we look at the match reports for the upcoming MAR matches in Oujda, we see FIFA say they are at Stade municipal d'Oujda but multiple other sources ([1], [2], [3], [4], etc.) all say some variation of Honor Stadium. (I'm not sure if all the sources would count as reliable, but I haven't found a single one just calling the venue Stade municipal). I also had an exchange on Talk:Honor Stadium with an editor who seems to have local knowledge and says the Group H and I matches from June were in Honor Stadium. FWIW, there are other stadiums where the name FIFA uses isn't in total alignment with the name we use on WP, like Alassane Ouattara Stadium which FIFA calls Stade Olympique d'Ebimpé. I'm honestly not sure what the best course of action here is, but earlier today I did change the name on the Group I matches in Oudja from Stade municipal d'Oujda to Honor Stadium like AMBlanco25 did here. @AMBlanco25 and Wburrow: I have found a source which states Stade municipal was renovated in 2018 and now has artificial turf. I will undo my undo. — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 20:59, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Just make sure to have correct sources and names before editing. Have a nice one. AMBlanco25 (talk) 21:10, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
