I'll take a look at this shortly. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 17:55, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
Prelim
[edit]- Article is stable
- Duplicated links: Sheffield, Matchroom Sport, Maximum break, 2006 World Snooker Championship, 2023 German Masters, Gary Wilson (snooker player), 2019 World Snooker Championship, 2017 World Snooker Championship, 2020 World Snooker Championship, Shaun Murphy, 2021 UK Championship, Glossary of cue sports terms#break, 2002 World Snooker Championship, 2023 WST Classic.
- Are these still duplicates based on the new-(ish) rules on WP:DUPLINK with links being repeatable on a section-by-section basis? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:31, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- That's every duplicated link, the tool doesn't differentiate between sections. I mostly add this so that you can change those you want; I won't be failing any article because of duplicated links! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 21:31, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- Images appear correctly licensed
- Earwig reports copyvio unlikely
Lede and infobox
[edit]- "Neil Robertson became the first player" no need to repeat his forename
- The only issue is that there is another player in the draw with the surname Robertson (see Jimmy Robertson). I know we haven't defined him, but in this case, this avoids the potential confusion. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:07, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- The dates for the non-UK champions are not mentioned in main text
- Added to body.Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:29, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Background
[edit]- Link challenge
- Linked Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:38, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- "against the top 16 seeds" considering this is the first instance in main text where the addition of the top 16 via ranking is mentioned, a word to stipulate that this is what "top 16 seeds" means here would be useful
- I've changed this to say they were the highest ranked players. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:38, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- Link Kyren Wilson and Mark Selby
- Linked Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:40, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Summary
[edit]- Is there an explanation anywhere of how particular amateurs were selected?
- Other than being picked by the WPBSA, not really. It's just "did they do well". See [1] Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:57, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- An explanation as to what a tour card is would be useful - it is mentioned in the latter stages of qualification but I feel this could be moved up
- Ive reworded Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:00, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- "other half-centuries" is "other" needed here?
- It is, because sometimes people calculate centuries as also being half-centuries. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:00, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- "O'Sullivan began his title defence by winning" the last O'Sullivan mentioned was Sean, so suggest adding Ronnie's forename here
- Agreed. Done Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:01, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- "deciding frames to Marco Fu" opposite here - probably don't need his forename as he's the only Fu mentioned
- "After his first session with Robertson" while I realise the other Robertson has been knocked out by this point, a forename here for clarification might be useful this once
- "and there were two re-racks"?
Rest of article
[edit]- Considering qualifying comes before the main draw I would have expected the qualifying draw section to do similarly?
- Order of importance. This has been discussed a lot, consensus is for it to be after the draw. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:53, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- There is no explanation of what the WPBSA is - I obviously could guess but it would be easier if the acronym is introduced
- Expanded and linked. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:05, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- Notes B and C should really have citations
- Cited. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 20:55, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
References
[edit]- References look good; text in images captions is all also present in main text.
- All appear to be reliable sources apart from the Metro, but I don't think either uses of that source are controversial.
@Lee Vilenski and HurricaneHiggins: Hi, that's all I've got for now. A well put-together article. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 18:33, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- All done :) Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 21:06, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
