Ranking of Runner-up Teams and Ranking of fourth-placed teams
A discussion Section has been started at Talk:2022 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) on the impact on the tables for runner-up teams and fourth-placed teams for permutations involving China, who are already confirmed as hosts of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup. Please discuss at that talk page. Matilda Maniac (talk) 12:01, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
New 100,000 seater stadium in Guangzhou to host opening ceremony?
News here: [[1]] - does anyone know how reliable this is? I don't see the stadium listed on the current article. Springnuts (talk) 11:09, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
- With CFA withdrawing from hosting the tournament, it is not relevant anymore to discuss about hosting venues. Footy2000 (talk) 16:57, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Suspension of India
India has been suspended by FIFA for now but there is currently no trusted source citing India would be replaced by Philippines. However, the ban may or may not be lasting for a long time and instead of confirming the teams through Wikipedia, we should in my opinion wait for the draw ceremony and further announcement by AFC and FIFA. Footy2000 (talk) 06:45, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- We shouldn't forget the UEFA Women's Euro 2022. Russia originally qualified, but it was suspended by the UEFA and FIFA for invading Ukraine in February 2022. But it took three months before Portugal was confirmed as the replacing team by the UEFA.
- India is currently being suspended, but it still has a few months left before a new host to be selected by the AFC. And unlike Russia, India does not wage war against anyone. We will keep India's place a blank for a while. HiddenFace101 (talk) 07:34, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with waiting until there is an announcement by the AFC, the tournament is almost a year away there is plenty of time for a resolution so there isn't a need to speculate. Maranello10 (talk) 19:55, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
- Just as a notice: FIFA and the India FA resolved their issues. Nehme1499 20:02, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

Will the tournament start in early 2024?
Is there an official statement by FIFA that the tournament changed dates to early 2024? Or is it just an assumption? JoshuaInWiki (talk) 04:38, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- It's an assumption based on Qatar's participation in the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the summer (and the difficulty in hosting a tournament in the Gulf in the summer). Nehme1499 13:13, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- There's been no official confirmation of the new dates from the AFC or FIFA. The QFA and other associations have mentioned 12 January to 10 February. Hack (talk) 11:38, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
Iranian referees
1. Mooud is not a good transliteration. Mo'oud is correct.
2. Alireza Faghani is Iranian-Australian (since 2019). So his nationality flag should be updated. Aminabzz (talk) 19:02, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
The first
Is this AFC Asian Cup the only in history that is going to be held in the year after the otiginal year of the tournament? And the reason is again COVID (like 2020 Summer Olympics). Aminabzz (talk) 19:40, 18 October 2023 (UTC)
Please updates starting eleven and referee staffs in all six group stages' matches
As seen in 2019 edition, starting eleven and referee staff are necessary to be mentioned. Do not forget this. HiddenFace101 (talk) 16:10, 12 January 2024 (UTC)
How can I semi protect this page?
Some lunatics just keep adding list of companies which doesn't sponsor the tournament. MArvAlcao17 (talk) 06:51, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- You can request in Wikipedia:Requests for page protection to protect this page. HiddenFace101 (talk) 18:47, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
Keep updating referees, starting eleven, substitutions and disciplinary points
It's necessary to have some sort of dedicated staffs to do these things in this tournament. We can't let this neglected. AFC Asian Cup is not as popular as Copa America or UEFA European Championship but that doesn't mean we are allowed to be lazy. No one can do this alone, even I, so helps are needed. Thanks. The logo
The logo needs to be reduced and the text color adjusted As here. أحمد 04 (talk) 17:14, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
How are Syria and Uzbekistan ranked?
There's nothing that separates the sides. Then, what is the criteria to rank one above the other? Footy2000♡; 03:34, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
We need to talk about Man of the Match
In the AFC reports, they rarely mention or even not mention Man of the Match at all. This is deeply worrying and we should find sources that know about it. HiddenFace101 (talk) 20:01, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
eSport
results from equivalent eSport competitions have nothing to do with the physical game of football, and need to be part of separate articles, provided they meet WP:GNG. Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:23, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Tournament rankings
Even if this document explains how the teams should be ranked (page 88), it is probably still kinda WP:OR since the AFC itself never publish those final rankings, just like they haven't in 2019...should this be removed, just like at FIFA World Cup articles after 2014? Snowflake91 (talk) 19:11, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Final rankings were published for the 2011 and 2015 editions. Those ranking criteria seemed to match the current manual. Mike Rohsopht (talk) 20:52, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, they were - but they stopped doing so pretty much at the same time as FIFA stopped posting official final rankings for World Cup, which was last published for the 2014 edition. So if nothing is officially published, then those rankings are still pretty much unofficial, made up by community / fans. For example, they posted that same technical report for the 2019 edition as well, but the rankings are not listed despite there being 75 pages of all kind of statistics, so apparently the final ranking doesn't exist / is not even important. Snowflake91 (talk) 21:19, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- We should assume good faith on the part of the AFC, who have published these criteria, that they will (eventually) publish final rankings. Perhaps they won't until after the tournament (makes sense to me). The documentation that provided those criteria is published, referenced, and not WP:OR.Matilda Maniac (talk) 00:25, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
