Percentages in the Infobox

[edit]

I removed the percentages in the Infobox with a thorough Edit summary, saying "With such small absolute numbers, showing percentages, especially to two decimal places, is really quite pointless." My edits have been reverted, justified by saying that's what previous articles do. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS tells us this is not a valid reason.

Mathematically, the percentages are invalid. With the numbers of votes being only two digit numbers, i.e. two significant digits, it's simply wrong to show four significant digits in the percentages. The rounding of that fourth digit in the first two cases is wrong anyway.

I also submit that the percentages add nothing of value to the article. When someone wins a poll 17 votes to 16, there is really no point in saying they got 52% of the vote. HiLo48 (talk) 09:20, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you're saying and I think you've convinced me. There's other leadership election articles that probably should be changed. As with the rounding, I was tired that night and made such mistakes. Do you kindly have any further guidance on percentages in Wiki articles? ―Darth TomotronThe Maw 09:54, 13 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
