Just a note for effects of TCs

Just a note please that if adding effects such as casualties or even damages, to add a source. Thanks. Typhoon2013 (talk) 12:12, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Typhoon2013, ok, Thank for reminding  :) HurricaneEdgar 12:57, 14 September 2021 (UTC)
HurricaneEdgar No worries! This is just so there's no confusion and potential edit warring. Also to keep every casualty and damages count pretty accurate. Have a great day! :) Typhoon2013 (talk) 22:04, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Chanthu article?

I have a very particular question. Will we make an article for Typhoon Chanthu? If so, then when can we start? CyclonicStormYutu (talk) 18:50, 8 September 2021 (UTC)

@CyclonicStormYutu: A draft is currently being written at Draft:Typhoon Chanthu (2021). Please contribute there. Chlod (say hi!) 18:51, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
@Chlod: Alrighty, i'll contribute when I can. CyclonicStormYutu (talk) 18:52, 8 September 2021 (UTC)
PAGASA stated it made landfall over Ivana, Batanas in Batan island. JMA map does show that the center went over Batan island as well. Grifforzer (talk) 04:02, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

What happened to the Chanthu draft? ~~//EPicmAx4

@EPicmAx4: Moved to Draft:Typhoon Chanthu. Also, please sign your messages using ~~~~. Thanks. Chlod (say hi!) 20:47, 13 September 2021 (UTC)

Regarding In-fa

Hey guys, Typhoon In-fa is currently a mess, plus outdated. So if anyone has enough time (enough in bold because the MH will be huge because of its lifetime of In-fa) pls cleanup or rewrite or whatever you feel like because this is a mess with improper grammar, timeline and outdated info and it needs an immediate cleanup. Thank you Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 13:43, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Drafts for incoming articles

I am aware that there was a discussion for certainty with article-making for active typhoons and drafts quite a while ago, but in regards for the current Typhoon Chanthu, I can see that a draft has been made, however the official article has yet to be published. Usually I would expect that a Chanthu article would officially be up by now. I personally don't think there should be a review on this before officially publishing as this talks about a current or a relatively new event. The amount of information (gladly) in Chanthu's section in this article is building up but it is too long for the season article and hence, must be cut up and transfer most of the abundant information to a separate article. Typhoon2013 (talk) 11:47, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Typhoon2013, I'm the writer of this. Since the track of Chanthu (KikoPH) is very big. I can't help but to write many lines. That's why it took three paragraphs. Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 13:39, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
Beraniladri19 I mean there is nothing wrong with the information, but I think it is way too excessive for the season article. Typhoon2013 (talk) 07:06, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

The monsoon depression situation

It seems like both PAGASA and JTWC does state that the 'two systems' are circulating into a larger monsoon depression. But for this case, should we merge Kompasu and Nando together in one section or keep separate? As said, even tho these two are circulating into one, they still mention that they are two separate vortices. The JMA may treat it as one, but the JMA did track a separate a TD early on in its formation stage. I just want to know other users' opinion about this. :) Typhoon2013 (talk) 12:54, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Pinging HurricaneEdgar here since he is constantly here too. Added thoughts to this situation is perhaps the Nando system where the JMA tracked as a separate TD probably could be 'absorbed' by Kompasu and became part of the same system after the JMA stopped tracking it? If that's the case we can separate into two sections? Typhoon2013 (talk) 01:32, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

yet the JMA stop tracking this storm before enter the par, also note same situation Odette and Seroja i agree they should be seperate storm HurricaneEdgar 03:06, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

HurricaneEdgar Yeah I heavily looked into this situation so much for the past few hours. I've already separated the two systems. All agencies have stated that both circulations were "embedded in a monsoonal depression (or circulation)". Merging the two sections together puts more emphasis on the monsoonal circulation, but this monsoonal circulation consists of two separate vortices that were separately tracked. There was even proof by the JMA that they tracked a separate TD. Moreover there is little to no information that the JMA has this as a "two in one" system. I hope this is enough for me to prove my statement about my edits Typhoon2013 (talk) 03:11, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Let me add something to this discussion. I think one thing that will complicate this situation a bit is the difference between PAGASA and JTWC on which of the two vortices became dominant and "absorbed" the other. If I understand correctly (comparing the PAGASA and JTWC analyses), PAGASA's "Maring" is JTWC's Invest 93W, while PAGASA's "Nando" is JTWC's Invest 94W. PAGASA said that Maring/93W was the dominant system and absorbed Nando/94W. On the other hand, JTWC said that it is the other way around: Nando/94W is the dominant system and absorbed Maring/93W. What's your thoughts on this? Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 08:11, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Nairb.Idi9 Hi yep I noticed that too which is frustrating to see lmao. I think for this case I will just pull the "JMA is the RSMC" card here? Then again this does demonstrate the merging of the two major circulations - which does get complicated when it comes to monsoonal depressions. I mean both the JMA and PAGASA showed that Kompasu/Maring was the dominant vortex than the latter, so I guess we just have to follow that. :/ Typhoon2013 (talk) 08:30, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, same thoughts. How about if the article presents first the analysis of the RSMC (i.e. JMA), then explaining afterwards the analyses of the PAGASA and the JTWC (as supporting details) as some sort of presenting how various agencies have different takes on this system/s? Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 08:43, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
Also, this would also complicate matters on the TC track presented on the article. Since PAGASA said Nando/94W got assimilated into Maring/93W, they stopped tracking it when it was over the Philippine Sea, few kilometers near Maring/93W, and they kept tracking Maring/93W and adopted the int'l name Kompasu. But the JTWC stopped tracking with Maring/93W and continued tracking with Nando/94W. And I just opened JTWC's website and saw that at 10/0900Z they upgraded Nando/94W into TS and adopted the int'l name Kompasu. So: for PAGASA, Kompasu is Maring/93W; and for JTWC, Kompasu is Nando/94W. Boooom. :~((( Nairb.Idi9 (talk) 08:50, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
Nairb.Idi9 This situation is already giving me a headache, haha. There is a possibility a Kompasu article could be made very soon since it is forecast to hit SE Asia in a few days, and perhaps we can mention that there. TC track wise, let's see what Meow does tomorrow since I am aware she updates the TC tracks everyday + updates the sources, I am sure she will be aware about this. My possibility for the tracks is that Meow will stop updating the Nando track map while the continuation of 94W (24W now) will be placed in the Kompasu track map, if that makes sense. Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:00, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
But is Kompasu Maring or Nando? I agree with JTWC because if you look at former satellite data, the Maring convection has increasingly weakened and (not really) absorbed into Nando's circulation. I think we should turn the TD Nando section into TD Maring. This is just so weird... 🌀AwesomeHurricaneBoss🌀 11:44, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
@AwesomeHurricaneBoss: Per JMA, TD Maring became TS Kompasu. That's the only thing that matters here, since JMA is the RSMC. Chlod (say hi!) 11:46, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
@Chlod: Ok then, but what happened to Nando? The Nando circulation is still there, I believe it is Kompasu. If not, then it's the scattered showers south of Kompasu. It is still there, IDK why the JMA stopped advisories for it. 🌀AwesomeHurricaneBoss🌀 11:51, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
@AwesomeHurricaneBoss: The two are now considered by JMA as one system. If you want to discuss about the intricacies of which circulation is what or where, then that's better off somewhere else. Chlod (say hi!) 11:54, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
Ok, let's leave as is. I don't want an edit war to happen. 🌀AwesomeHurricaneBoss🌀 12:03, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Severe Tropical Storm Kompasu

I suggest we now add HKO’s warning since it has just issued a Signal 3 Hanami-Sakura (talk) 20:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Mindulle's article?

@Hurricaneboy23: @Jasper Deng: Do we really need to make an article for Typhoon Mindulle because of its super typhoon strength?

49.144.32.94 No. Strength of a storm doesn't make it a factor of creating an article already. Typhoon2013 (talk) 23:57, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

@Hurricaneboy23: @Jasper Deng: Does it need to be remembered much in the future to make an article? Is it required?

49.144.32.94 Nope as long as the storm has had impacts whatsoever and depending on the amount of information, then considerations of an article would be made. Typhoon2013 (talk) 20:23, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

@Hurricaneboy23: @Jasper Deng @Typhoon2013: Mindulle came near the Japan area, so will it be enough to make an article for Mindulle?

49.144.32.94 Hmmm. By the looks of it, even if there has been some effects, it is only enough to be fit in the storm section of the season article, but not enough to make a full article. Typhoon2013 (talk) 10:59, 6 October 2021 (UTC) @Hurricaneboy23: @Jasper Deng @Typhoon2013: Ok

Severe tropical storm Namtheum

I am in doubt. Does the extratropical cyclone that was Namtheum have any direct relationship to the bomb cyclone that hit the western United States? I'm reading some meteorological articles about this. André L P Souza (talk) 18:19, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

@André L P Souza: Ex-Namtheun became the first bomb cyclone that primarily impacted British Colombia, the second one that's making headlines for widespread impact across the Western US is a separate system. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 20:55, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Cyclonebiskit understand. I'm glad I didn't add this information. But meteorology portals cited these 2 systems. Thanks for the report. André L P Souza (talk) 22:34, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Cempaka strength?

Why is TY Cempaka is now a typhoon, it's image was changed and it's pressure drop to 980 hPa? why? 180.195.204.116 (talk) 07:43, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

The JMA released its best track for Cempaka (archive link) on 1 November, raising Cemapaka's peak intensity to 70 kt and 980 hPa (up from 55 kt and 990 hPa operationally). ~ KN2731 {talk · contribs} 09:37, 3 November 2021 (UTC)

TD Nando and 26W section

TD Nando

@Hurricaneboy23: @Jasper Deng: Why do we add TD Nando in the systems instead of listing it in "Other Systems" because it has less than 55 km/h winds? 180.195.204.116 (talk) 00:57, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

180.195.204.116 It could be part of it, however the system is named, and plus its storm summary was kind of related to Kompasu with the merging bit. Typhoon2013 (talk) 04:47, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

TD 26W

Speaking of section, why is 26W have a section in "Systems" instead of listing it in "Other Systems" section because it has less than 55 km/h wind speed? 180.195.204.116 (talk) 09:49, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

The general idea is to give any JTWC-designated or PAGASA-named storm its own section instead of enlistment in the "Other systems" section. Storms in the "other systems" section usually are JMA-designated tropical depressions that never get formally recognized. Chlod (say hi!) 09:52, 30 October 2021 (UTC)

Question

Hello, this is Nonnysmemes, a new account created on Wikipedia, why do we need to add equivalent to the strength/ category of a tropical cyclone? Example: category 3- equivalent typhoon. Nonnysmemes (talk) 10:20, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

@Nonnysmemes: The SSHWS isn't used by any agency in the western pacific basin. However, to give the readers (especially western ones) a sense of scale, we add the equivalent SSHWS category. Since there is no agency that actually gives SSHWS categories to WPac typhoons, we need to add in "-equivalent" or else we would be falsely claiming that an agency analyzed a system under the SSHWS. Chlod (say hi!) 10:52, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

Damage cost for (Typhoons In-fa and Rai; combined?) or (season's total damage?)

I still don't get it. The summary says that both Typhoons In-fa and Rai contributed more than 50% or maybe 60% of the season's total damage (which it's at $2.771 billion). Typhoon In-fa itself caused > $1 billion (but it's not 2 billion), while Rai caused $720 million. Adding them up, it will be $1.720 billion incurred by these two highly-damaging tropical cyclones.

The summary I placed refers about the damage total for the two typhoons, not for the whole 2021 typhoon season. ROBLOXGamingDavid (talk) 17:40, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

29W

Why is 29W's damages not included in the seasonal total CycloneEditor (talk) 05:50, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Retired names

2022 is almost over, and there is still no news about the retired names from this season. Considering that this documentwas created one month before the session, this is probably an older version of what was supposed to be released and there is a newer document that is not released to the public containing the retired names from this season. We might have to wait until the 55th session to see the retired names from this season as releasing the old document in the 54th session was possibly a mistake. Any thoughts about this?
