Clubs

[edit]

An IP has been altering the clubs to remove the flags. I would argue that they should be retained for ease of access for those who may not know what country the club is from. I'm opening the discussion here for further input. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 22:10, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think the flags for the clubs aren't as relevant as the flags of the countries the players represent and as such only the flag of their union should be displayed. The players represent their country internationally but not their club in the same way. Simply clicking on the link for the club provides info on where that clubs is from, however I think most people viewing this page will already know by name where each club is from. You could say the same for the players by nationality however their nationality has always been an important aspect of the Lions ethos, in terms of the best players from the four nations coming together to tour as one team. All previous tour pages for the British & Irish Lions don't display the flags for the clubs and I feel this presents a more appropriate and less cluttered look. The edit also changes the names for the Irish provinces and some other clubs to read as they are referred to in all other articles eg. Leinster Rugby reads simply as Leinster. I would appreciate any further thoughts, many thanks. 86.151.124.134 22:56, 11 May 2021 (UTC)
I disagree, I don't think it looks cluttered. I think it is a helpful visual cue so you don't have to click through to find out. We have to assume that the reader doesn't know much about British club rugby so it is useful to display that they don't all play in their home country (especially in the case of Racing). Unfortunately this contradicts and disregards the opinions and presentation on previous pages and does not stand as a good enough reason in itself to outweigh the other points previously explained. 86.151.124.134 17:20, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Independent sources

[edit]

I have added independent sources for some of the match reports, because we shouldn't be using a source from one of the teams taking part. Using a source like ESPN is common practice across similar rugby articles. PeeJay has reverted several times, giving a different reason each time, so it's tough to understand what his objection really is. I would be interested to get others' thoughts on this. // Hippo43 (talk) 18:21, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

All of my objections apply. – PeeJay 20:16, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
None of your objections would supersede the policy of using independent secondary sources. Unless you will explain why you think that they should, this discussion might be pointless. // Hippo43 (talk) 20:22, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
