Free Practice

[edit]

Should a Free Practice section be included on pages? It is currently on the Austrian Grand Prix page but I’m not sure whether it should he included or not. JamesVilla44 (talk) 19:21, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I meant it is currently on the French Grand Prix page JamesVilla44 (talk) 19:22, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesVilla44: I would say yes, it provides context to the article specifically to the reaction to quali/Race results and most if not all of our good articles have it. SSSB (talk) 20:11, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hamilton penalty

[edit]

How does the Lewis Hamilton penalty work? JamesVilla44 (talk) 20:12, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesVilla44: take a look at this SSSB (talk) 20:45, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@JamesVilla44: All penalties are applied before a reshuffle, the way I explain this to myself is that placed Hamilton in P5.1, so still ahead of Noris, shuffle forward to P5 because of the gap he left, suffle forward to P4 for Magnusen's gap KrisTheNBGamer (talk) 16:17, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think GPfans got that wrong as well as overcomplicating things by talking about a gap Norris "could not fill". It's really simple. They first applied Hamilton's penalty and then Magnussen penalty. So the top 10 from qualifying was LEC-HAM-VER-BOT-MAG-NOR-RAI-GIO-GAS-VET. They first applied Hamilton's penalty to that resulting in LEC-VER-BOT-MAG-HAM-NOR-RAI-GIO-GAS-VET. Then they applied Magnussen's penalty to that, resulting in LEC-VER-BOT-HAM-NOR-RAI-GIO-GAS-VET-MAG which the race was eventually started with and whence Hamilton move a place forward again. If they had applied Magnussen's penalty first, that would have initially yielded LEC-HAM-VER-BOT-NOR-RAI-GIO-GAS-VET-MAG which in turn after applying Hamilton's penalty would have resulted in LEC-VER-BOT-NOR-HAM-RAI-GIO-GAS-VET-MAG as actual starting order.Tvx1 21:42, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Tvx1:That is not, technically, the case though, MAG's penalty is applied before HAM's but the gaps are not filled until the very end. So Mag's penalty resulted in an order of 1.LEC 2.HAM 3.VER 4.BOT 5.empty 6.NOR..., then Ham's penalty results in 1.LEC 2.empty 3.VER 4.BOT 5.HAM 6.NOR... Finally the gaps get filled any everyone from BOT moves up a space.--86.21.220.149 (talk) 19:06, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesVilla44, Tvx1, and KrisTheNBGamer: 86.21.2220.149 is correct. I would recommend taking a look at this he explains the process really well. SSSB (talk) 19:15, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Austrian Grand Prix Grid

[edit]

Should we add a citation to explain the Hamilton penalty? JamesVilla44 (talk) 20:17, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@JamesVilla44: Only if we explain how the penalties are applied rather than just state how, currently we are doing the latter. SSSB (talk) 20:45, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
