Previous club column

[edit]

What is the relevance of the "previous club" column in the squad information? I could see which team the player transferred from being of relevance in the transfer section for that player (in the season he transferred) and in case of a direct transfer. But once the player has been for more than a season at the club it seems irrelevant, even more so for a player like Cameron Watson, who was released by his previous club four months before signing with Bengaluru. --SuperJew (talk) 13:22, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indian football clubs don't have a normal transfer system at all. We don't spend transfer fees domestically or abroad and we don't bring in transfer fees at all. Every signing is free so we just put preview club to show that. Probably should be worded like that but that is how it is in Indian football. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 13:36, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, in that case I see a point of putting a previous club in the transfers section, like you worded it now. But, I still don't see the relevance in the squad information for a player who's been at the club for a few years. --SuperJew (talk) 13:39, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Valid points. One additional information could be added with the year signed, so that gives context about the player along with previous club, like done at 2015–16_Juventus_F.C._season#Squad_information. Coderzombie (talk) 13:42, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I would think to remove it completely, also at the page you linked. For example, what relevance is it in 2015-16 that Buffon joined Juventus in 2001 from Parma? If someone is interested in a specific player, they can go to his page and read his club career there. --SuperJew (talk) 13:46, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We could. Personally I am not bothered by that one. When I first did these I went with the one I saw in Major League Soccer articles (minus the games played and goals scored columns) just cause it looked nice and simple. The Juve one has more going on in my opinion. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 13:49, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also add that out of the columns Juve do have, the "contract until" one is the most relevant to current players.
I don't follow Indian League enough to have a strong opinion about this either way. Was just passing through to add Watson and thought to contribute my thoughts. Thanks for having a good discussion about this :) --SuperJew (talk) 13:59, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome mate, all opinions are welcome here :) In regards to the "contract until", well, don't think it would surprise you to know that if anything, most players are on 1-2 year deals in India but there is no way to verify that for wikipedia. So you know what their contract is but you can't exactly say it here. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 14:21, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. We should name that situation at some point ;) maybe the Wikipedia Standoff? --SuperJew (talk) 14:27, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What ArsenalFan700 said. Very tough to find reliable sources for deals. Coderzombie (talk) 14:35, 5 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Article Tables

[edit]

Per consensus at WP:Footy Here and Here and Here and many more in the archives I have removed the overall, Overview and result summary tables all of which are either covered by other tables or elsewhere in the article.Blethering Scot 18:12, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
