Shooting of unarmed escapees?
[edit]Sorry for my lack of knowledge about how the police force and the legal system works in the States (being in Europe, in a country where police uses firearms only around 10-15 times per year), but I'd like to ask that there wasn't any media comment on the fact that one inmate was shot dead and the other one was shot too and he is in critical condition? I know they are/were convicted murderers, but it's perfectly okay for police in the US to shoot at unarmed prison escapees? I've read that Sweat was unarmed and he was trying to run away into a forest when a police officer shot him two times, both shots hitting his torso. For me, that seems an intent to kill him so he can't hide further, and honestly, I find it a somewhat excessive use of force. If this is perfectly normal in the US (thus no media comments), then it means one can be legally shot if fleeing as an unarmed prison escapee. --Rev L. Snowfox (talk) 22:16, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, it was legal for the officer to do that. But I don't think the police can just shoot any escapee, Sweat was shot because he reportedly ignored and then ran from the officer. If he had cooperated he wouldn't have been shot, but he almost made it to the treeline, so it was a decent attempt. Rainbow unicorn (talk) 00:02, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Speculation
[edit]The woman is supposedly admitting to supplying hacksaw blades hide in raw meat. Look at the pictures of the cut pipe. This was done by a power machine. Lines are pretty straight for a hacksaw blade. With a hand hacksaw you wouldn't run over on the cut. She may have supplied hacksaw blades for a power hacksaw, but who snuck the machine in in a hamburger. 73.149.116.253 (talk) 13:33, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
- This is just speculation, with no way of confirming it. Also fails Wikipedia:No original research. If you can find secondary sources supporting this possibility, it might be suitable for inclusion into the article. As is, it is not. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:28, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
- Some media reports (don't have a link) were reporting at the time that the hacksaw blades were used to cut from the vent grate from the cell into the catwalk, and the power tools were stored somewhere in the catwalk or basement storage area, and they used those tools to cut into the pipe and back out a couple feet away on the other side of the wall.76.105.216.34 (talk) 17:51, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Investigation results
[edit]The article lists that two prison employees are under investigation still, I believe this is long out of date info. We're they fired? Demoted? Nothing? Cs302b (talk) 20:09, 19 November 2018 (UTC)
