Major Correction Needed on the Title
[edit]I want to point out that this Major El Niño event started in 2015 and not 2014. Here's the 3 month averages going back to 1950 from NOAA itself and El Niño (Shown in Red) is not in 2014: http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/ensostuff/ensoyears.shtml
- We could call it the mid-2010s El Niño event? Sagittarian Milky Way (talk) 04:13, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- Actually no correction to the title is needed since the major underlying conditions for the El Nino emerged during 2014, with a few meteorological agencies actually calling it an El Nino during 2014 including the JMA. It is also worth noting that all it would take is for the JFM 2015 figure to be revised by 0.1 point in hindsight, before an El Nino could be declared as starting in 2014 by NOAA.Jason Rees (talk) 12:14, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
- I'm with Jason. There is data proving that the El Niño began in 2014, so we should use that for the title. Unless, in the future, it becomes better known as something else, this is the best option. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 17:18, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

- It's already been fixed apparently, the correct link (with "first-el-nino" instead of "first-el-Niño") was already in the article. I've set checked=true. Rchard2scout (talk) 16:18, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
Peru Declaration
[edit]According to NOAA, Peru declared that an El Nino was under way during May 2014, however, something feels wrong about it and I am trying to look for an official announcement using their website.Jason Rees (talk) 23:30, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
Record breaking temperatures in some countries
[edit]Many websites and news I have seen recently are about very high temperatures over in India through to Thailand, but I don't know if it is even related or it is just normal. But the Philippines are higher than usual in temperature and Manila broke the record for highest temperature today. Also for NZ, I may not provide a source but according to my experimenting charts and from Metservice, average temperatures are rather high. Should we add more of these? - We would need a source to tell us that its El Nino related before adding in any impact.Jason Rees (talk) 09:59, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
Venezuela Drought
[edit]I strongly feel that the Venezuela drought needs an article, since it has had a significant impact on Venezuela.Jason Rees (talk) 23:14, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
