Belle (2013 film), and when to list movies

[edit]

I removed Belle (2013 film) from this list, since it premiered at a film festival in 2013. Should it be added to the 2013 list on the day it first had a festival showing? It seems a little odd to list the film like that, since in the past these lists seem to have only had things listed based on when they were released into theaters (but it also seems wrong to list it here given that it was first shown in 2013). How should situations where a film is shown at a festival before being shown in theaters be handled in general? Also, how do we decide if a film is listed at all? If a film were to only ever be shown at a festival and never get a real release in theaters, would we not want to list it at all? Calathan (talk) 17:41, 5 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That discussion as linked above is what prompted me to remove Belle from this list. It looked like that discussion was kind of winding down since the proposed changes had been added to the MOS, but I guess it would still be a better place to ask my question than here. "The Rover" and "Foxcatcher"

[edit]

The above films should not be listed where they currently all. They should be listed under their cinematic release date, not under their release date at the Cannes film festival. Could we please fix this? Markunator (talk) 17:09, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not USA Release Dates

[edit]

I am extremely irked that when I go to the page 2014 in film, the calendar shows the release dates for the films, but for another country outside of America. I wish this to be changed. I want to see the American release dates of these films, and when I see the release dates all jumbled up, it confuses me. For example, Edge of Tomorrow's release date in the U.S was June 6th, but the page lists its release date as May 30th. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.128.119.36 (talk) 15:16, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is a standing consensus to list films by their first release dates, whether they are in the US or not. The very first release date for Edge of Tomorrow is not June 6th, so it should not be listed under that date on this page Eventhorizon51 (talk) 20:17, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you would like to see American films released in 2014, see List of American films of 2014. Remember that this is a worldwide encyclopedia presented in English, not an American-perspective encyclopedia. BOVINEBOY2008 12:02, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I concur. It is idiotic to list films to whatever happens to be their first release ANYWHERE. This is the English language Wiki and 90% of the visitors will be looking for the major release date for the country of origin. That would be the most logical. We shouldn't have to click several more times to track down this info. Because if you are going to arbitrarily list whatever country is first, then you might as well simply list the film's premiere date. Makes as much sense. I know, I know - expecting wikipedia to do something based on logic and common sense is like hoping the same thing will happen in Washington... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 23.240.124.18 (talk) 00:55, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Imitation Game

[edit]

The first country wide release is the UK on November 14th. Why is the film listed on the date of September 27th? It was only shown at the San Diego Film Festival on that date which also was not the first showing, if we are listing it by that criteria. 67.253.122.130 (talk) 03:40, 14 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

it was shown at the film festival then it was first shown there. 24.191.98.53 (talk) 07:52, 25 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Why Whiplash is not listed here?

[edit]

"The film premiered in-competition in the US Dramatic Category at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival on January 16, 2014, as the opening film of the festival." That's the sentence in the article.

Genres

[edit]

I think that we should include that there are 8 sci-fi films in the top 10 (Transformers 4, Guardians of the Galaxy, Mockingjay - Part 1, X-Men, Captain America, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Interstellar) and 2 fantasy films (Maleficent and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies) --Editor49 (talk) 01:33, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am condensing the dollar values in the highest grossing table per MOS:LARGENUM. Film community consensus also exists for these changes. Note the instructions at Template:Infobox film as well as this discussion. We don't know what Box Office Mojo's margin of error is and there is no specific need for this much precision. The specific MOS language that covers this is: Where explicit uncertainty is unavailable (or is unimportant for the article's purposes) round to an appropriate number of significant digits; the precision presented should usually be conservative. Precise values (often given in sources for formal or matter-of-record reasons) should be used only where stable and appropriate to the context, or significant in themselves for some special reason. Men, Women, & Children

[edit]

The Wikipedia article for Men, Women, & Children says that the film opened at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2014, but this article does not include the movie. Not that this matters, but the movie is not listed in the "2015 in film" article either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.57.50.224 (talk) 02:12, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Genre Removed

[edit]

Why is the genre column removed? Just because a high school kid doesn't like it you have to remove it. I find genre very helpful when looking for movies to watch. The Genre column for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 were deleted (Genre was first started in 2011). An attempt on 2015 but was restored. my7thsecret (talk) 10:03, 14 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
