Title Change

Hello, anyone currently tracking this? This a very interesting article with lots of good info. Thanks! However, I think the title and the overall tone could be changed to convey a more neutral viewpoint, as suggested by the alerts at the top. For events like this, it seems a common title structure is something like "2013 South Korean Sabotage Plot". At the least, I don't know how proper it is to include UPP in the title, given that the Korean language version title refers only to Lee Seok-ki. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thesecretaryofwar (talk • contribs) 16:53, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Right Wing Propaganda

The whole article is very likely right wing propaganda by the South Korean Intelligence Agency which in the time of Park Geun-hye was known to influence opinion with these underhanded means. The whole "sabotage plot" was probably not much more than a smokescreen to ban the leftist United Progressive Party. In my opinion the whole article should be deleted or at least radically transformed to the point of unrecognizability. Also Amnesty International has demanded the unconditional release of the imprisoned lawmaker and the legalization of the UPP. Red Greek Revolution (talk) 05:09, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Moving towards NPOV

I agree that there are some significant issues with this article's POV. I have made an edit a small attempt to bring this article closer to NPOV this and here I am going to lay out how I think each change brings us closer to an NPOV.

• I have removed the "democratically elected" modifier from the opening sentence. This sort of modifier whether true or not is only relevant in so far as it paints an institution as just. You only really add this sort of modifier if you want to indicate that certain anti-government activities are unjust.

• I've added information about the successful appeal of charges and the reduction of sentence from the opening paragraphs. This is mostly just to update the article to reflect the truth, but the old version could sort of give the impression that there was no serious dispute of the charges raised.

• I've added information about the dissolution of the UPP. Since it happened contemporaneously with the appeal of Lee Seok-ki, was certainly a direct effect of the accusations, and resulted in Lee Seok-ki (and four others) losing their seats in parliament.

• I have removed the See Also section which consisted only of a link to defensive democracy. This seemed like a pretty blatant attempt to give justification the NSP and the actions of the South Korean government. Such justifications can be discussed in the article but it should be clear who is giving them and it should likely appear along side the differing views of human rights organizations such as amnesty international.

Nearly all of the changes are within the opening paragraphs, but the article as POV issues beyond there. I will probably try to do some more changes to later sections, but unfortunately research like this is time consuming and this article is quite long. With these changes done I've added the Template:POV to the article. Since all three comments on the talk page dispute some aspect of the articles POV (although the dispute about the title seems to have been resolved) and I don't think that I have completely addressed the issue.

Hi,AquitaneHungerForce. Yes the article has some issues. The title of the article needs updating because the current title sounds like a plot has definitely happened. An important distinction to make for this case was that the guy Lee seok ki was technically charged with two separate charges, one for plotting the said sabotage and one for inciting others to plot such a rebellion.The guy was only sentenced for inciting others to plot such a rebellion with his words, not for organizing a plot. If at all, the court decided that he is not directly related but he might have indirectly caused it. So the title needs to be changed to something like 2013 south korean sabotage plot trial or sabotage plot incident.Also considering the fact that certain renowned academics like Noam chomsky has actually reacted to this incident and was one of the people who supported the release of Lee,and the current consensus in South Korea(I am korean but on the left side) is generally unfavorable(even among people with leftist views) to Lee due to his past history of underground leftist movements as shown in namuwiki or the korean wiki or this article, there should be definitely a reaction section that is classfied into two sections,one for domestic reactions and one for reactions of people overseas.Also,I propose making a seperate article for Lee because after all he was a member of parliament and seems to be doing his own thing while being incarcerated until 2023.There is no dispute about his political views, which seems pretty outdated,but the dispute is mainly on the process of the prosecution than accused of being something he is not.Waltzingmogumogupeach (talk) 04:25, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
