Draw
[edit]When's the draw? Will it be determined at the meeting that decides the host? Purplebackpack89≈≈≈≈ 17:03, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- No, it should be held in the host country probably around 31 January 2012, as it was 4 years ago. Isavevski (talk) 18:47, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
it will be held on january the 1th, 2012 in Caracas, Venezuela — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcopolololo (talk • contribs) 21:09, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Format
[edit]So, FIBA decides to use the exact same format as it was 4 years ago?! This kind of format is very unfair. Next year's World Olympic Qualifying Tournament will be as competitive as the Olympic tournament itself, with only four of the traditional basketball powerhouses not competing: USA, Spain, Argentina and Australia. I reckon FIBA should use the same format it used for the Olympic tournament: 2 groups of 6 teams, top 4 in each group advance to the quarterfinals, then semifinals and the grand final. Top 3 teams qualify. 2sc945 (talk) 10:34, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
- FIBA wants to employ some kind of playoffs for this. Since the top 3 teams advance, there'd be no more grand final for the #1 and #2. After all, they went to the tourney to advance, not to win.
- In any case, a better format would've been three groups of four teams, then the group winner advances. No playoffs though; if they'd want a playoff, two groups of six teams, the top team advances, then some kind of a playoff for the final berth; that'll increase the max number of games played to ~7, though. –HTD 03:38, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
