Statistics (Appearances and goals)
[edit]The version I used with the "EFS" (Extended Football Squad) to show players appearances, substitute appearances and goals in all competitions throughout the season is a simpler and easy to edit version to the one being used know. Skyblueshaun 15:03, 4/8/11
- Age, and whether or not a player came through the youth system, is information that editors who spent an entire year maintaining last season's article discussed at length at Talk:2010–11 Watford F.C. season. IMO it adds value, and in any case zero work is needed to maintain that information during the season, so I don't see how it adds any complexity.
Speaking of complexity, from your previous edit it is clear that you intended to add separate tables for top scorers (covered by the sort function in the original table) and disciplinary information (which is incorporated into the original table and is also sortable). I find it very hard to understand how a system of three tables is in any way simpler than one. —WFC— TFL notices 14:14, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
End of season - outstanding issues
[edit]Right, did an end of season update today. They outstanding issues, prose aside, are:
- Someone switched the article to say Stephen Davies had been awarded Derby's goal in the away fixture, taking it from Ben Davies. I switched it back as there was no source.
- The source for Kyle Connolly signing as a scholar said he'd joined at "second-year" age. However, the club have amended their scholar profiles to show Connolly in the first-year section. I imagine as a late-joiner, he's been kept back a year (Connor Smith is graduating this year, but is actually a year older). Hopefully the club will do a stat pack for the academy, as they write over that profile page so it can't be used as a ref long-term.
- I need to check the player booking totals against a reliable source (i.e. not Soccerbase). I've done them each update by counting them up off the BBC reports used as match report references. However, I'm near definite the Press Association feeds in those BBC reports miss out bookings - I swear we got more than three at Brighton, for instance, while Hogg reached his five booking suspension when I had him down for four. Similarly, I'll double-check appearances as well.
- I'm also not sure how to present Mariappa's sending off. Does the first booking go in the bookings column, or just the red in its column?
- The club hasn't bothered announcing loan extensions for Hoban, Smith and Tumwa, so there's no refs there. I think it's because they're on "work experience" so there's no requirement to set an end date. This article shows Tumwa played in the penultimate weekend of the season for Harrow, so I've set his end date for the final day of the Isthmian League. Wealdstone have reached the play-offs, so I've got their end date as the date of the match - if they progress I'll have to amend.
- Might be worth adding a note to the place tracker to say Watford were one of only a few clubs to play on Good Friday, with the majority playing the following day. We held our place after a defeat that day, but dropped down after results on the Saturday.
- Refs need adding for transfers out last summer.
That's all I can think of at present! HornetMike (talk) 17:43, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- I think for certain things, such as Connolly and when the loans ended, the best solution is to wait for a while. It should become clear before the start of the season whether Connolly is a pro or a scholar, and as you say, it should become easier to work out when a player was last available for his loan club once that team has finished its competitive matches (it would be lovely to see Wealdstone in the same league as our northern neighbours, wouldn't it?). You're right about Ben Davies as far as I can tell. I've sourced the transfers, but will leave the bookings in your hands as I would probably have used Soccerbase: for Mariappa I suppose the source you end up using would dictate how you do it. Hats off to you for all your great work on this article over the season Mike! —WFC— 06:18, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- As for the profile pages, if you were to archive a version of the page you could use it as a long term source. I've used WebCite in the past (to cite Sean Murray's ROI profile page), but I think there are other archive sites out there. —WFC— 06:22, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
