Film's nationality

[edit]

Newspapers are reporting that Outside the Law has been officially submitted under the Algerian flag, despite being funded and produced predominantly by French companies. This seems to be because of a political controversy. How should Wikipedia handle this, should we list it with the official country or the de facto country? Smetanahue (talk) 06:10, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tempted to go for both, with a reference to each flag. But I guess it depends on how Cannes want to list it, and not what the press report. Similar lines to how The White Ribbon was listed as a German submission at the Oscars, when it's clearly an Austrian production. Lugnuts (talk) 07:44, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's not really a boarderline case like White Ribbon, where more than half of the budget came from Germany. If you check Days of Glory on festival-cannes.fr it has France listed first. Days of Glory was largely made by the same team and production companies, following the same concept (that it later was accepted as Algeria's Oscar entry has no relevance here). Some sort of explanatory footnote seems necessary no matter what, however I'm not sure if the official country classification should be given much importance, since we're not supposed to take politics into consideration. I would rather have the actual country with a note below the list explaining what the festival classed it as. Smetanahue (talk) 18:15, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Ok, it's listed with France first now on the festival's website.[1] No problem anymore. Smetanahue (talk) 03:09, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Midnight and special screenings

[edit]

What happened to the midnight and special screenings, and why are they not shown in this article? 198.53.106.182 (talk) 16:15, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
