world record in government formation
[edit]how long did it take to form a government in somalia? have you (and all for sensation looking tabloids) considered it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dubhe.sk (talk • contribs) 19:52, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Somalia had a formed government, technically, but it was in exile and unable to function. Even if it didn't actually govern anything it was recognized as a legal government for all those years. 66.183.11.233 (talk) 22:22, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Belgium does have a government; the Leterme II Government is acting government until another is formed to replace it. In Somalia on the other hand, since 2004 the Transitional Federal Government has been recognised by foreign governments but it does not meet the definition of a government, as it does not control the state. See Government. Before 2004 they didn't even have the TFG.121.12.240.237 (talk) 05:55, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
But doesn't Belgium still have a king? So there's still someone at the top of the heap? --DarthBinky (talk) 03:42, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- This seems a very weak news item. Has someone done the full research on how long, lets say, countries were without goverments in the 5th century? To me, this doens't belong in the article, or the main page, unless we want to start a trivia section. Calistemon (talk) 06:24, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
The correct world record is: "Longest government formation in a democracy". Many news sources use this, unfortunately some use a more sensational incorrect title (and even more unfortunate, wikipedia is one of them)Nico (talk) 09:48, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Even the current statement, which includes democratic, is hard to verify. Has someone gone out there and checked the ancient democartaies of Greece and medival Italy to make sure it is true? Lets stick to a statement that we can prove to be true, and add "in modern time" (post 1789). Calistemon (talk) 14:14, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- The concept of a "government formation" did not exist in ancient democracies as far as I am aware. Ucucha 18:49, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Belgium has now broken its own record with the current (2018-2020 and counting) government formation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A03F:688D:8800:527:3ECD:AE1B:5A11 (talk) 08:53, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
So, has Belgium finally formed a government?
[edit]From reading the article, I can't tell if there's a government formed, or if the parties are still arguing, or even if they're still attempting (haven't given up for some reason whatsoever, e.g. emergency elections). The article does not provide any sort of "latest current status", it simply presents a chronological narrative of some events. Please someone fix it. 89.190.197.130 (talk) 11:09, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Running total
[edit]It seems unencyclopedic to me to have a running total of the number of days based on the current date. It makes looking at the revision history bizarre since past revisions continue display the running total based on current date. This will be especially odd once the situation resolves and there's no reason to keep a running total. I removed the running total. 184.60.19.128 (talk) 04:42, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
