It needs to be made very clear that there are actually two elections going on, here, this year: one (a SPECIAL primary and general) to serve out the remaining months of Kilpatrick's term, and another regularly-scheduled general and primary that is taking place. It just so happens because of when Kilpatrick resigned that the two are overlapping.
