Men = Gentlemen, Women = Ladies

[edit]

In Wimbledon, "Gentlemen" and "Ladies" are used instead of "Men" and "Women" (see [1] for example). Shouldn't we use it in the Wimbledon articles too? RaLo18 11:26, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

This has already been dicussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Tennis/Archive 2#Discuss. –MC (talk) 15:50, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I searched for a discussion about this in some articles, but couldn't find it. Thanks. RaLo18 18:54, 28 June 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RaLo18 (talkcontribs)

Why is Roger Federer's name already in the box as a winner of the Men's championships?? Ok, everyone knows he's gonna win it, but still this doesn't make any sense in my opinion, and its a little disrespectfull to Rafa and his fans?UmutK (talk) 19:49, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He lost. Mazeau (talk) 20:31, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL how funny, he put up a good fight though, and both played amazingly. MikelZap (talk) 23:02, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Zheng Jie or Jie Zheng ?

[edit]

The Family name of the Chinese Woman Player is Zheng, and in a Chinese name family name goes first. After reading Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Chinese)#Order of names, I think her name should be appeared as "Zheng Jie" in this article, but not "Jie Zheng" which is the current appearance. --Quest for Truth (talk) 18:13, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The naming conventions you mentioned also say we should use the english ordering when it is the most common. Since the Women's Tennis Association, and, for the male players, the Association of Tennis Professionals use the english ordering (not in the articles but the in the official players bios (Zheng's bio) and in the official draws), I believe we can consider it is the most common. Please correct the edition

[edit]

There's a typo in the box to the right: It talks about the 122nd edition. Curt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.243.191.229 (talk) 07:27, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please correct the typo in the first paragraph, Britons Andy Murray should be Briton's Andy Murray. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.8.125.93 (talk) 18:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Britons" is correct. A Briton is a British person. The sentence is referring to Murray and Robson as Britons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.246.47.10 (talk) 09:52, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photos

[edit]

having lucked out in the ballot, I was at the men's final. Unfortunately the only camera I had was my phone, (and of course it was getting very dark by the end), I think the two photos Iv'e added are about the best of what I managed to snap, but if you don't think they're good enough, so be it. David Underdown (talk) 09:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It does seem a bit silly that so few people upload pictures on to here, when so many were being taken. Wimbledon should have signs erected kindly asking people to upload their best pictures to Wikimedia Commons. I think your pictures are fine though... Bees

[edit]

I was just wondering why there is no mention of the massacring of a swarm of bees near the start of the champonship. TheTrojanHought (talk) 15:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I added it in to the part about the pigeons. I get the feeling they'd kill anything on the players' caprice. Yohan euan o4 (talk) 17:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mixed Doubles Final

[edit]

Didn't this finish after the Mens Singles Final in even more darkness? I'm not sure of the details, but shouldn't that get a mention? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.152.199.33 (talk) 04:39, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It was switched to Number 1 Court, and began whilst the men's final was still in progress, I'm not quite sure when it actually finished. David Underdown (talk) 07:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7492510.stm the mixed didn't finish until 21:34, so it was the las tto finish (and it really was dark by then). David Underdown (talk) 21:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
