Box Scores?

Do we want to do box scores (goals, cards, etc.) for the playoffs? If so, I can get the boxes loaded on here and track them out. Mtndrums (talk) 15:31, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

We may have a problem getting info for the earlier years, but I can find them as far back as they have on the PDL page and throw 'em together. I'll start with this year's, since we're now getting times, places, etc. of this year's playoff games, and I'll work backwards gradually (come September I'll have much more lab time to get everything set up). Do you know where the National semis and final will be at, or have they not announced it? I know the W-League finals are in Virginia Beach, but haven't heard anything about the PDL. Also, if you find out the game times and have them before I do (particularly for the Western Conference), if you could throw those up after I get the score boxes on it would be greatly appreciated. The venue for the National semis and final depend on who qualifies, so we won't know that until after the Conference finals this weekend. For the Western Conference, it's SFV Quakes vs Vancouver at 4:30 on Saturday 26th, Fresno vs Tacoma at 7:30 on Saturday 26th, Conference final 7:30 Sunday 27th. Playoff Brackets

I realize the brackets are a pain with 7 teams coming out of the Central Conference, so I think just having the Divisional playoffs just in two-team brackets, then placing the winners in the appropriate spots may work. Colors + Flags

Hey guys, I just noticed that this years colors (green/yellow) are different from all the colors we used for previous years seasons (blue/green). Is this something we should standardize?

Also, on previous years PDL season pages, there are no state flags in the playoff brackets. Do we want to add them to all the other years, or take them off this year? I just think it's important to be consistent. --JonBroxton (talk) 16:13, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I have no problem going back and adding them to the previous seasons' pages. I ended up just following the US Open Cup format for the brackets, so unless someone has any objections to using the flags, I'll go back and add those. As far as the colors, I just followed what was being used on the page when I started, and added the blue to denote teams that were in playoff position. Done, and flags added to all the brackets up until 2000 or so (whenever the bracketed playoffs end). Eventually I'll either design or manipulate brackets for the remaining seasons, and if someone can get some stubs started for the years not covered so far I can go through and add tables and brackets for those years eventually (the more slow days at work I have, the sooner it'll get done). Central Conference

According to the official USL playoff bracket - http://www.uslsoccer.com/docs/postseason/PDL/PDL-Bracket.pdf - the winner of the Midwest Divisional Round will play Michigan in the Conference Semis, and the Heartland and Great Lakes Divisional Round winnerswill play each other. I don't have the skill to change the bracket (I'm not being lazy, I don't know how to do it!!), so could someone make the switch? Please and thank you. --JonBroxton (talk) 19:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I don't think they have that set up per se. They have the divisions in alphabetical order, and the Michigan at the bottom of the conference bracket being the home team. According to the rules (http://www.uslsoccer.com/aboutusl/rules/index_E.html), they would play the lowest seed (the seedings are in the lower right-hand corner) to come out of the three divisional games. That's just what I gathered from reading the PDL rules underneath the Playoffs section, I may be reading it entirely wrong as well. Mtndrums (talk) 20:18, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

And as it worked out, that's how it goes anyways. Kalamazoo was the last seed, so they end up playing Michigan. I've changed the brackets to reflect that. If Thunder Bay wins, I'll move them since they're the 2 seed nationally, but if Colorado wins, I'll keep that bracket down for time being since they only get moved up if Toronto wins. Chicago-Kalamazoo

From what I can gather, after Chicago let in that own goal, they just went totally flat. I didn't see it coming either, but on any given day on the pitch.... I'm just dreading having to give the s/o the score of the Thunder Bay-Colorado game. Mtndrums (talk) 04:51, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

I just noticed some discrepancy between the match report on the USL site and the one given on the Kalamazoo site. The first goal is credited as an own goal against Chicago on the USL page (possibly on Sperry, but I don't recall a keeper getting charged with an own goal), but the Outrage site credit it to Mark Briggs. Do we stay with the USL report, or credit Briggs with the goal? My first instinct is to stay with the USL site, but I'm wondering if there isn't some personnel difficulties considering the Rapids U23's-Chill report not being up. Colorado-Thunder Bay

And so far all I've gotten was a writeup out of the Thunder Bay Chronicle... do you all have this hard of a time getting stats from the USL site normally? Or is it more of a matter of getting teams to report them in? Mtndrums (talk) 17:06, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Not usually. The USL actually have pretty strict guidelines for score reporting; once the game has ended you have to call in the result + goalscorers to a special hotline within an hour of the final whistle. Then, you have to fax the official stats sheet with all the stats you see on the game pages within 2 hours (I know all this because I am the stats guy for the San Fernando Valley Quakes). So, USL usually have the basic score on the site within 45 mins, and the full stats within 24 hours. I'm not sure what's happening with the Thunder Bay score - it's odd, especially as its a playoff game. --JonBroxton (talk) 17:38, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Just got the box score up... looks like that was a knockdown-dragout affair... then again I can understand the frustration because apparently on Oliveira's first goal he just tore through the Colorado D on a solo breakaway.
