Alexcs114, I'll have a review written for this within the next day or two. I see it's been about a month since your last edit, so let me know if you're still active and interested in bringing this article to GA. Otherwise, I'll write a review for posterity so that you (or anyone else) can get back to it at your leisure and renominate in the future. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 06:45, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Alexcs114, I've reviewed a few of the sources, and I found that significant portions of the text were copied from the sources with minimal changes. There are most likely more examples beyond the ones that I listed below. Articles should be written entirely by Wikipedia editors, using the facts from sources without copying their text. Close paraphrasing brings up potential copyright issues. I'm closing this review so that you or anyone else who is interested can rewrite the article using original text. - Well-written
- Verifiable with no original research
All of the sources seem reliable. I notice that all but one are from 1986; this isn't great, because it means we can only list the bare facts of what happened without providing any meaningful analysis or any coverage of its relevance today. Nearly all of the sources are from The New York Times, and of those, a significant portion are written by Frank Lynn. The article should be written from a variety of perspectives (ideally including those of historians or other people studying the history of New York elections). I suggest finding more sources about this election.
Spot checks:
- [4] NEW YORK'S REPUBLICANS BANK ON THE SUBURBS – There's some close paraphrasing here. It's important that we write the facts in our own words without copying from the source itself.
Republican Party began to bank on the suburbs
– This is copied from the title of the article. "Bank on" isn't encyclopedic language and shouldn't be used either way.Upstate counties, which provided the Republican Party with 60% of their vote, were not at all represented in their statewide ticket.
looks like it was copied from New York's upstate counties - which provide about 60 percent of the Republican statewide vote - are not represented on the party's state ticket.by the assumption that upstate voters would vote Republican no matter what
looks like it was copied from by a widespread assumption that upstaters will vote Republican whether or not the ticket includes upstate candidatesThough Regan was once a prominent upstate Republican himselfm he moved to Katonah,Westchester County three years prior to the convention.
looks like it was copied from Comptroller Regan, once a prominent upstate Republican, moved from Buffalo to Westchester three years ago.
- [5] CUOMO ATTAINS PARTY'S BACKING BY ACCLAMATION – It's hard to tell what this is supposed to support versus what [7] "A DYSON SENATE RACE IS EXPECTED" is supposed to support, because they're both at the end of the paragraph without any indication of which statements support which claims, which affects text-source integrity.
in an example of what some called a rivalry among black political leaders
looks like it was copied from an example of what many Democrats said is a rivalry among black political leadersDemocratic Party leaders such as Mario Cuomo publicly stated that they had been unable to find a credible black candidate for Lieutenant Governor or Comptroller
– Cuomo is not listed among the leaders that said this.
- [15] REGAN CHALLENGES BADILLO'S DEALINGS WITH PUERTO RICAN HOTEL:
It was said by Regan that Badillo's corporate activity while concurrently serving as chairman of the New York Mortgage Agency raised "serious questions".
looks like it was copied from Mr. Regan said Mr. Badillo's corporate activity while also serving as chairman of the State of New York Mortgage Agency raised "a number of serious questions."
- [23] COMPTROLLER SWIMMING AGAINST A POLITICAL TIDE:
"Experience is the bottom line" was the theme that ran through a $1.2 million campaign of Regan television commercials that began in mid-September.
looks like it was copied from "Experience is the bottom line" is the theme that runs through a $1.2 million campaign of Regan television commercials that began nearly two weeks ago.Literature and commercials also emphasized Regan's over 1,900 audits of state agencies and local governments.
looks like it was copied from The money pays for literature and campaign commercials, which emphasize that Mr. Regan has conducted more than 1,900 audits of state and local government
- Broad in its coverage
- Neutral
- Stable
