Times Archive links for the FA Cup run
[edit]Here are some reports mentioning Colchester United's F.A. Cup run.
- Second round result
- Third round draw "Colchester United, the only club outside the League as yet clearly in this round, have drawn Huddersfield Town--a match that will tax the capacity of the Colchester ground to the limit".
- Third round preview
- Fourth round draw
- Fourth round preview "To-day 32 teams face the fourth round of the F.A. Cup competition and one of them above all will surely go into battle with the sympathies of a sentimental majority. That team is Colchester United. Members of the Southern League, conquerors of Huddersfield Town, they fear no one on their intimate little ground. [...] Colchester once again are said to have prepared a secret plan and quite properly are being as close as their native oyters about it. Should the plan succeed then Colchester will have equalled the feat of Darlington, who in 1910 as members of the Nother-Easterb League reached the last 16 in the Cup and the onkly club outside the Football League to have done so since the turn of the century." [A nice preview if inaccurate on the latter point]
- 5th round draw
- Fifth round preview

- @Nfitz: I don't know if you watch these season articles and saw the above earlier. The November 1949 report I mentioned in the deletion discussion makes reference to this seasons cup run here, "... one wonders whose turn it will be this year to emulate the feats of Colchester United and Yeovil Town in recent seasons." It was clearly considered a notable cup run at the time, which for me helps make this season notable. Jts1882 | talk 17:10, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I saw innumerable mentions to both the 1947-48 and 48-49 Colchester FA Cup runs when looking for references about their single 1949-50 match - so I'd think both were notable in their day - though I confess I haven't looked at what happened - but now I'm curious! Nfitz (talk) 17:15, 12 May 2019 (UTC) Though looking now, it must have been just 47-48 they were talking about in 49-50. 48-49 looks ordinary ... Nfitz (talk) 17:18, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
