Official name
[edit]Why does 1932 Colgate Red Raiders football team redirect here, rather than vice versa? I believe the Red Raider mascot name was in effect in 1932, so that should be the official title of the article. I'm planning on reversing the direction of the redirect. Comments? - I couldn't find evidence of them being called the Red Raiders yet at that point. As mentioned in the article, the school claims that the name "Red Raiders" came later in reference to this team, so if that is true (which it may or may not be), then the team couldn't have been called that contemporaneously. - Okay, I found this source, which does indeed show them using the nickname for the first time on October 21 of this season, or at least, an iteration thereof: "The Red Raiders of Chenango". Time magazine described the new name as "appalling", heh. Strikehold (talk) 07:52, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ha, that's great. I also find it interesting that Time magazine had something resembling a sports column back then. Good stuff. DeFaultRyan 15:31, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
