[edit]Some sources (e.g. Dubin (United States Gubernatorial Elections, 1776-1860: The Official Results by State and County, 2003), Glashan (American Governors and Gubernatorial Elections, 1775-1978, 1979), and Kallenbach and Kallenbach (American State Governors, 1776-1976, vol. 1, 1977)) state that this election was held on Election Day (United States), i.e. November 5.
Contemporary sources make clear the election was held on November 5:
- 1879 Pennsylvania Senate Journal
- Juniata Sentinel and Republican (Mifflintown, PA), 30 October 1878: "General Election. Sherriff's Proclamation"
- The Centre Reporter (Centre Hall, PA), 7 November 1878: "The following are the returns of the elections held on last Tuesday…"
