Celibacy issue

[edit]

Quite clearly, there are some here who are ignorant of the Vinaya. All bikshus (gelong) and novices (getsul) must maintain celibacy. The only exceptions are great siddhas such as Serkong Dorje Chang who had to receive permission from the 13th Dalai Lama to do consort practice. Even in Nyingma, the bikshus do not take consorts. Only the ngakpa lamas do so. The term lama does not necessarily denote that the person is a bikshu - there are many lay lamas. Though the 15th Karmapa may had the appropriate realisation to do so, to generalise and say that only the Gelugpas keep such vows is misleading and saying the bikshu sangha in the other lineages are breaking their vows. Number of Children

[edit]

Different sources state different numbers of children Khakyab Dorje had. Some sources say as many as 11. It's also unclear which sources take from oral histories. I think it's best to just say "numerous" for now. Badabara (talk) 19:18, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just came across a book that states he had 14 daughters and sons! I think the subject of 15th Karmapa and his consorts and children is worthy of a book of its own. Fascinating subject. Badabara (talk) 19:32, 29 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Title is Karmapa, not Karmapa Lama. Corrected page title changed back to incorrect page title, in error

Title is Karmapa, not Karmapa Lama. Corrected page title changed back to incorrect page title, in error

Sorry, Hey man im josh, I see you're an administrator, but you incorrectly re-moved or reversed the corrected page title.

  1. 1 The Karmapa's title is 'Karmapa', or 'Gyalwang Karmapa', and not 'Karmapa Lama'. It has never been 'Karmapa Lama'.

See the name list of the 17 Karmapas here https://kagyuoffice.org/karmapa/the-17-karmapas/ or look at any scholarly site on Tibetan Buddhism, such as Lotsawa House or Treasury of Lives.

  1. 2 The 15th Karmapa Khakhyap Dorje has an "h" in his name as per the Karmapa's website, which your re-move also incorrectly deleted.

Again, see the name list of the 17 Karmapas here https://kagyuoffice.org/karmapa/the-17-karmapas/

  1. 3 The naming convention for Tibetan Buddhists is tulku number, then spiritual title, then given name. On this page here, the correct page title is 15th Karmapa, Khakhyap Dorje.

- An example is "Texts by the Fifteenth Karmapa, Khakhyab Dorje (mkha' khyab rdo rje, 1871–1922)" at the scholarly Lotsawahouse.org https://www.lotsawahouse.org/tibetan-masters/fifteenth-karmapa/

- Another example is "The Sixteenth Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpai Dorje" at the" at the scholarly Lotsawahouse.org:scholarly Treasury of Lives: https://treasuryoflives.org/biographies/view/Sixteenth-Karmapa-rang-byung-rig-pai-rdo-rje/11385

These links are very clear, in case there was some doubt for some reason. Therefore, please undue your re-move, since I'm sure it was made in error. Metokpema (talk) 17:48, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I spent hours as a volunteer correcting all of the page titles for the Karmapas. I could go to each of the 17 pages and leave you this same message, but it would be easier if you just looked at the sources and admit the mistakes. Please undue all of your reverts, which were clearly made in repetitive errors. Metokpema (talk) 18:08, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
