Hal Holbrook

[edit]

I deleted the sentence about Holbrook as it is untrue (and partially libelous) since Holbrook never went into rehearsal. David Merrick had signed Holbrook for the part but when Richard Rodgers cancelled his planned musical, I Picked A Daisy, with TV star Robert Horton in the male lead, Merrick grabbed Horton to annoy Rodgers, with whom he was feuding. Merrick bought Holbrook out of his contract. I Picked A Daisy was later produced as On A Clear Day You Can See Forever with a score by Burton Lane instead of Rodgers.
