Title is dubious
[edit]This event seems to have a lot of sources giving it a tiny amount of coverage, no doubt sourcing back to one another. It is real and notable, but the term pogrom seems highly inappropriate, since there doesn't seem to be any element of riot or approval for private violence. Suggest we move to something that involves the word massacre.--Carwil (talk) 22:07, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Sources need to be improved/updated
[edit]The sources cited here are very old (some of the crucial ones are from the early 19th century) and it's notably difficult to find recent reliable sources that provide information about this. Old sources are not necessarily unreliable but they might be based on primary sources which have since undergone greater scholarly scrutiny. The Beker-edited book is more recent but some of the information there is vague and inconsistent with more specialized scholarship on the history of Fez and Morocco: the fact that it describes the Almoravids briefly as "liberal" and that it repeats the probable folk etymology of the word "Mellah" as coming from Jews being forced to "salt" the heads of decapitated prisoners suggests that the writer had a superficial knowledge of the topics at best (compare with the discussion of the Mellah's origins at the Mellah of Fez page, for example). So in short, more rigorous references are needed to show that the details here are supported by modern scholarly consensus. I'll keep an eye out for more sources myself. - Per my last edit summary, I've been adding some sources now and then and the main claims of the article are reasonably verifiable now per Wikipedia standards. We're still lacking on details about the event, but for a short article that's not an urgent issue. Maintenance tag removed. R Prazeres (talk) 02:40, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
Merged duplicate article
[edit]Please note this discussion about a newly-created article (Ifrenid Conquest Of Fez) that duplicated the topic of this one. I've redirected that article here as there's no reason to keep it while this one exists. As I mentioned there, if there is a desire for a more general title of some kind instead of the current title here, please follow the process outlined at WP:RM.
