A fact from 1,10-Decanediol appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 23 January 2025 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that 1,10-decanediol could potentially hamper the production of nitrite in soil?

Overall: Hey 金色黎明, so nice see you here on enwiki! First, the DYK hooks should follow the same format as on zhwiki and wrap the eligible article in bold markup. I have made those adjustments for you and added a link to nitrification, so no worries there. Most of the sources are offline academic references, and I will AGF regarding them. Image is freely licensed. The Google Patents source backs the hook fact, although I am not a 100% sure if it is a reliable source. It is also just moderately interesting imo, but since the rest of the article is much more technical, I do not believe a better hook can be formulated, so I will get it a pass. This is your second DYK nomination, so no QPQ is needed. Good to go! —Prince of Erebor(The Book of Mazarbul)13:09, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As a specific chemical compound, we can hardly expect the hook to be of interest to a broad audience. The hook is adequate IMO. Moreover, if the hook already conforms to all the requirements, the DYK should not be held up any further. -- P 1 9 9✉21:15, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe ALT0a ... that 1,10-Decanediol could potentially hamper the production of nitrite in soil?
I also agree that Narutolovehinata5's proposed hook is much better. I do not think a link to nitrification is necessary though, as we are trying to simplify the technical aspects to appeal to a broader audience. Adding a pipelink to another technical term does not seem to make it more interesting. —Prince of Erebor(The Book of Mazarbul)06:17, 15 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
