De Jong's commentary on translation

[edit]

Note that the De Jong book review has an extensive commentary and criticism of Lamotte's French translation of the Buddhist texts. Remember the page numbers mentioned in this review and any reviews from the 1960s and 1970s correspond to the original French-language book. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:54, 13 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Abbreviation of Śūraṃgamasamādhisūtra

[edit]

The Jacques May review states about the abbreviation of Śūraṃgamasamādhisūtra

The review criticized Lamotte for using the abbreviation Śgs. to represent both Śūraṃgama-samādhi-sūtra (the title) and Śūraṃgama-samādhi because it could create a slight misunderstanding ("une légère équivoque"). Therefore in their review they use Śgss. for the title and Śgs. for śūraṃgama-samādhi. For the Vimalakīrti-nirdeśa the review used Lamotte's abbreviation of "Vkn."
