Death
[edit]I have raised a citation need against his death as stated. It would help if more light could be shed as to where it took place and who he was serving under (German or Soviet?).Cloptonson (talk) 14:13, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
- I have found an online Latvian language resource, Football in Latvia 1907-1940 which has player biographies. In his, what is written clarifies and partly contradicts what the present article states. It says he was deported in 1941 after a dispute with a Soviet occupation official, and was sentenced at a court to 9 years imprisonment or the opportunity to play for Minsk Dinamo, that he was later drafted into the Red Army but died of pneumonia in camp. It states Soviet memorial sources commemorate him as 'a Defender of the [Soviet] Homeland' given his life in 'the Great Patriotic War' (the Russian title for WWII against Germany). I will add the citation and revise the text when time permits.Cloptonson (talk) 18:21, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
