Inventor of the Baudot code?

[edit]

I found a couple of sources ([1]) that say although Baudot invented the teleprinter system, the code itself was devised by Johann Gauss and Wilhelm Weber. Rees11 (talk) 18:52, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Confusion around text

[edit]

The following quote is confusing to me: "The Telegraph Service encouraged Baudot to develop—on his own time—a multiple Hughes system for time-multiplexing several telegraph messages." Does "multiple Hughes system" mean a system in which there is more than one Hughes teleprinter? I am going to assume that is the case and rewrite it. If this is not the correct understanding feel free to correct it.

My revision: "The Telegraph Service encouraged Baudot to develop—on his own time—a system for time-multiplexing several telegraph messages using Hughes teleprinters."
