Tainan Municipal Syuejia District Syuejia Elementary School (abbreviated as Syuejia Elementary School) is an elementary school located in Syuejia District, Tainan, Taiwan.
History
[edit]Taiwan under Japanese rule
[edit]Syuejia Public School was established in 1906. The classes were held in the side rooms of Syuejia CihJi Temple initially until 1918 when the school moved to a new location. A two-year higher education course was added to the school in 1922.
Due to a growing number of students, and was in need for an expansion, Syuejia Public School had planned to relocate in accordance with Syuejia’s urban development plan in 1937. The relocation was completed in 1940, and the school occupied the site up to the present day.[3]
In 1941, the school was renamed to Syuejia National School due to amendments to the Taiwan Education Act.
The school established branch schools in the surrounding area, which then became independent later on. These branch schools were as follows:
- Dingxizhou Branch School — established in 1918, became independent in 1922 and was renamed to Dingxizhou Public School
- Zhongzhou Branch School — established in 1922, became independent in 1926 and was renamed to Zhongzhou Public School
- Zhaizigang Branch School — established in 1923, became independent in 1939 and was renamed to Zhaizigang Public School
After World War II
[edit]In 1946, the school was renamed to Tainan County Syuejia Township First National School. In 1947, it was renamed again to Tainan County Syuejia Township Syuejia National School.
In 1957, the school established 4 branch schools, these were Xinrong Branch School, Wenhua Branch School, Meihe Branch School and Daming Branch School. The Xinrong Branch School became independent in 1961 and was renamed to Dongyang National School. The Wenhua Branch School and Meihe Branch School were put under the administration of Dongyang National School.
In 1968, the school was renamed to Tainan County Syuejia Town Syuejia Elementary School in accordance to the implementation of the nine-year compulsory education system in Taiwan.
In 1993, the Syuejia Elementary School Supplementary School was established. In 1996, a class for special education students was established in the school.
From 21 to 23 April 2006, the school held a series of events to celebrate its centennial, 100 years since it was first established in 1906.
On December 25, 2010, due to the merger of Tainan County and Tainan City, it was renamed Tainan Municipal Syuejia District Syuejia Elementary School.
In 2011, the Tainan City Mobile English Village – Syuejia Village was established.[4] In 2014, the school set up the Community Multifunctional Learning Center of Ministry of Education and became the central school promoting health in Tainan City from 2014 to 2017.
In April 2016, the school held a series of events to celebrate its 110th anniversary.[5]
The former school building, used by Syuejia Public School from 1918 to 1940, is currently used by the Private Tianren Industrial & Commercial Vocational High School. In 2018, the building was registered as a historic building of Tainan City.
