St. Markʼs Episcopal Church was an Episcopal church in Altadena, California. It was destroyed during the Eaton Fire in January 2025.

History

[edit]

St. Mark's started in 1906 as All Saints North Pasadena Mission, an outreach of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena, California.[1] It was officially christened as St. Mark's Parish on April 6, 1914.[1] The first church building, completed in 1915, was constructed on Washington Boulevard.[1] On November 2, 1947, groundbreaking was made for a new building in Altadena.[1]

The church was part of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.[2] St. Mark's had a parochial school.[3]

On January 7, 2025, the church and school were evacuated with the Eaton Fire approaching.[4] The church caught fire at 6:30 in the morning on January 8, 2025 and was destroyed.[4]
