After Southern Pacific retired 1293 in 1957,[4] SP donated the locomotive for display in Dr. Powers Park in Tracy, California. It remains there to this day[when?] on static display, subject to deterioration caused by vandalism and exposure to weather.[5]
^A plaque affixed to the locomotive's cab, outside the engineer's window, reads "Presented by the Southern Pacific Company to the City of Tracy February 1957." A photograph of the plaque is shown on the Railtown Tracy website.
^A series of photographs of the locomotive taken in 2012 show signs of extensive rust and decay, and evidence of graffiti that has been painted over. An effort by a local group to move and cosmetically restore the locomotive has yet to take place, as of February 2019. Refer to the Railtown Tracy article about SP 1293 for photographs and additional details.
