Silver Valley is an unincorporated community in Coleman County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 20 in 2000.

History[edit]

B.E. Smith and B.R. Brown were among the first settlers to this community circa 1886. The former soon built a gin near his home, and then A.A. Dunn built a store in the late 1890s. A post office was established inside his store and J.B. Lowrie became postmaster. There is debate on whether the community was named for settlers finding silver deposits in the hills nearby or for how fertile the land was. The post office moved three miles to be closer to the Pecos and Northern Texas Railway in 1910. There were 67 people served by two businesses in 1940. This went down to 20 from 1980 through 2000.[2]
