Sidi ag Muhammad al-Khir (ruled c. 1730 – 1750) was the Amenokal, or ruler, of the Kel Ahaggar,[1] a Tuareg confederation in present-day Algeria.[2]
Reign
[edit]Sidi ag Muhammad al-Khir succeeded his father, Muhammad al-Khir ag Salah, as Amenokal of the Kel Ahaggar around 1730. His reign marked the continued consolidation of the confederation, which had been established by his grandfather, Salah.[3][4]
Legacy
[edit]Sidi ag Muhammad al-Khir's reign is notable for the Kel Ahaggar's growing prominence in the region. The confederation's influence extended over trade routes and neighboring groups. Sidi ag Muhammad al-Khir's rule also laid the foundation for the subsequent expansion of the Kel Ahaggar under his successor, Yunus ag Sidi.[5]
